The vast majority are being intimidated by a minority . Fact
Decent folk speaking a mother tongue handed down to them ,yet ,because of the land they are born on,it’s not enough to be considered “ proper welsh” and they should learn it.
Well………..no.Why don’t welsh speakers accost the language,as a country , will always be a minority language . If you’re born in Bangor,Caernarfon,Cardigan, handed are you will be brought up speaking it , if in Ebbw Vale,you wont .

Because S4C purchases the right to broadcast the match in Welsh, the English rights are usually sold to a much bigger outfit who pay a lot more. S4C do sometimes have a n English language option on the red button, but it all depends on the terms of the contract and if anyone has picked up the English language options.
S4C have worked a little route to get around the monopoly the likes of Sky have on broadcasting events. [Post edited 7 Sep 9:28]

Nobody is being hounded. I am not a native Welsh speaker myself. I explained what S4C was set up for and find it arrogant to suggest their commentary should be in English which would breach its basic principle of being a Welsh language channel and to encourage more people to learn some Welsh.
You don’t have to be a Welsh speaker to be Welsh of course not. Now that would be a stupid argument to make but it’s no hardship to watch a Wales game with Welsh commentary particularly when the alternative is it might not be broadcast at all.

Excellent post, unfortunately I can't speak Welsh, but I support the Welsh peoples right to speak it and long may it continue and even grow.
Yes its a pain watching sport without English commentary, but you can still watch it and enjoy it.

Personally I don’t give a toss about the Welsh language & it irks me I see my money wasted on receiving letters in both Welsh & English ,the money & the environment would be far better off if you were given the option.
I bet S4C’s don’t warrant the money gifted by the licence pay to keep a few yokels happy.

I don't have a problem with the Welsh language apart from the massive cost to duplicate everything in Wales. It does smack of double standards though when the programs are entirely in Welsh on S4C but many of the adds are in English. They really couldn't survive without the English language. | | | |

Like other Anglophones, I accept that there is a valid case to promote the Welsh language. This does have certain downsides though. In the organisation where I worked full time for many years and still do a bit, every organisation-wide communication must be sent in both languages. This means there is now a translation unit that requires a couple of days notice if a translation is needed and delays messages being circulated. When emails are sent, the Welsh must precede the English language part. I often wonder how much time it takes across the organisation to scroll through the first part of emails, since only a minority of employees actually speak and read Welsh fluently. | | | |

Because S4C hold the Welsh language rights to the games, not English.
The English ones are held by viaplay, which is now part of Premier Sports in the UK.
For some reason viaplay/Premier Sports are not showing any nations league games this window, that's why Scotland and NI are being shown on itv.

I don't speak Cymraeg but I don't see why you need a football match with English commentary. Just watch the damn thing! Or better still buy a ticket and go to the game.
