It's back! The first of 241 Extra Preliminary Round fixtures take place tonight.
There are five games that stand out for me:-
Penistone Church - Charnock Richard (I just like the names) Congleton Town - AFC Bury (possibly the biggest crowd & the tie of the round) Virginia Water - Brimscombe & Thrupp (the Brimscombe name & picturesque ground do it for me) Oldland Abbotonians - Amersham Town (ex Amersham player & I think they last played in the FA Cup in the 1969/70 season)
The last one being Thetford Town - Ipswich Wanderers (ex secretary of IW & as it is being played at IW I will be in attendance)
I do mainly lose interest in the competition once the qualifying rounds are completed!
Great news Chesham got through- pity about Amersham though. The only irritating thing about the draw will be the guaranteed w@nkfest for Wrexham and Birmingham .
Thanks Boston, I'd seen the goal (many times) but not any other highlights.
As expected from a Yeovil Town production, I'm told that this was heavily biased & that 0-0 was written all over the match! Climbed all over him? Nah, but I thought it should have been a comfortable save for the 'keeper.
Revenge for the 1-0 defeat in the First Round proper 1982/83. My memory tells me that there was major crowd trouble at Chesham, Slough (won at home to Millwall) & Wokingham (drew with Cardiff) that day.
Yep Slough 1 Millwall 0: 3 sent off (2 for Wall, including our former player Dean Neal), ‘Wall supporters ran across the pitch in numbers to attack the Slough fans, very late Slough goal to win it. Wall had Sam Allardyce playing for them too.
Was at the game, gave it a really good go at the end but Tonbridge just too strong. Fiver for a pint and a decent choice of local beers though, nice day out
Always hope for Bristol Rovers away when QPR are drawn and never get it, one go with Weston-s-Mare (I watch them regularly) and we get them! Good West Country derby!
They made comment to their being 8 previous FA Cup winners in the draw.
I'm assuming they are counting eirther MK or Wimbledon as I could only come to 7 - Blackpool, Bolton, Huddersfield, Bradford City, Notts County, Wigan & Charlton.
Chesham at home to Lincoln is a lot more attractive than last season was (home to Maidstone), but not appealing enough for me to miss our defeat to Sunderland! WW, Reading or Brum would have given me a hard choice.
Victory would guarantee Chesham £98k in prize money & defeat over £33k. Rangers will receive £25k for losing in the third round!
and Rochdale are still in the draw , could this be the year we get rochdale away in the Fa cup ? they picked up a nice home game against bromley so should make it through to 3rd round
And the TV picks for the first round include Birmingham and Wrexham . Getting on my nerves all the hype about two sides that until recently were unknown on the other side of the pond.
favourite cheese mature Cheddar. FFS there is no such thing as the EPL
I've already been given permission to go to football on the Saturday & Monday & now waiting for the tickets to go on sale. I will have to drive rather than train as I don't think I could make the last train from Liverpool Street to Ipswich!
An inevitable pick but duller with Sutton only just being relegated. Bwood v Orient or Southend v Charlton are more ‘magic’-worthy. The Wrexham pick is just pathetic.
The Tv picks are not about magic, they are about getting as many people as possible to watch it and Wrexham will get more viewers than those other games especially when you have Spurs v Villa and Man Utd v Chelsea on sky that day.
Also is it not more magical for those games to be at 3pm on a Saturday?
I get why but it’s a shame. I think there’s an element of ‘magic’ in upsets being televised. Even worse now they move half the games to Sunday for no good reason as they have with Bwood.
