Of course it was only 3 or 4 years ago civil disorder broke out in Bristol and a mob of thousands of people rampaged around smashing things up, causing criminal damage and throwing a statue into the harbour. The police superintendent in charge made what he described “a tactical decision” to just let them get on with it.
Four people faced trial for the riot but none were convicted following large amounts of money being sent by various celebrities like Banksy. They were treated like heroes, had a film made and even had a road named after them.
It’s almost as if some riots with violence and criminal damage are allowed, celebrated and the perpetrators even rewarded. It’s things like this that also add to the tensions.
I recall a few complementary comments about Bristol I worked there for six months in 1968. A greater bunch of arrogant jerks I’ve yet to come across . A crap hole
He’s been there a month, the last lot trashed things over 14 years, he’s not going to be able to change all that in a month. They’ve not had a budget yet, they’ve given the various departments 3 weeks to show report the extent of the financial skeletons they’ve all been concealing under the last regime.
There’s no magic wand, fixing things takes time. Let’s say he wanted to set up a team to deal with the small boats, by the time you appoint people after interview, vet them, reference them give them an offer of a job and they work their notice for their employer you’re up to 3 to 4 months!

He had no choice with the sentences and releasing prisoners because our prisons were full and at bursting point, he has basically implemented the plan put together by the Conservative predecessor.
I think they’ve got the pensioner heating allowance wrong and they need to rethink it. I don’t subscribe to the belief every pensioner should have it and believe it should be means tested. I’ve a relative who’s in his 70’s, gets a good gold plated index linked pension, he’s got 7 buy to lets including 2 or 3 HMOs but still gets the heating allowance, meanwhile there’s a bunch of pensioners who don’t get pension credit and who are slightly above the limit the government have set who are going to miss out. It needs more thought.

Do you belive that they didnt have had time ,they had enough time in which to in instant cut the winter fuel allowance ,plan to get pensioners who previously stopped paying NI to restart if they're still in employment.They had enough time to declare the building of 1.3 new homes (fully costed of course) found 11 billion to provide foreign aid .Don't forget Blair/Brown trashed the economy, I suspect these will be just as effective.Book mark it.
