''Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?''

RIP Sergeant Oddball.

RIP Dirty Don, made some great films and knobbed Julie Christie on film!

Brilliant actor, too edgy and off centre to ever be nominated for an Oscar which is a fine thing.

Another piece of my misspent youth gone to the Big Green Room in the sky! Nic Roeg's 'Don't Look Now' still one of the finest British films ever made.

Citizen X.

An HBO made for TV movie that nobody has ever seen.
Go and use this excuse to look it up now, there are DVDs kicking around for a couple of quid.
It inspired the casting of Chernobyl, and their decision not to make them all do dodgy Russian accents a la Hunt for Red October.
Sutherland is generationally superb in that.

Don't Look Now rewatch this weekend I reckon. Brilliant acting/story but Venice in winter as a backdrop is perfect. My favourite time of year to visit there.

RIP Donald.

Kellys Heros

This films via Sutherlans performance shows that some waster hippies can be fighters if the fight is personally worth it to them. Also, just because they are hippies does not mean they don't understand the world and don't have the expertise (as in knowing how to take on the superior Panzer tanks and when NOT to take them on).

He plays the role amazingly well with jokes such as "negative vibes".

One of mybiggest regrets was not being off school the day my dad met him during a filming break at Black Park.

Apparently, Donald spent his lunchtime walking round the lake with my dad, and was a top chap according to dad.

An understated talent that will surely be missed.

His 20 minute (but seems like an hour, in a good way) part in JFK is one of my favourite pieces of film, ever. Grips you from the start and sends a chill down your spine by the end of it.

A true, modern great. RIP.

My earliest recollection of him was in the series 'Man in a Suitcase'. He played McGill's sort of mate who seemed to get him into trouble. 1st class actor with so much humour. Sad loss. R I P.
