Marti, that one's on you, removing Larkeche is beyond belief, amongst other baffling choices.

Agreed - baffling. Dykes, Dozzell and/or Field could and should have been pulled, but it seems Marti has his favourites.

Poll: What points will we get from our 'Festive 3' (Swansea A, Norwich A, Watford H)?

May as well save Larcheke for the next games. Won't make a jot of difference if u leave the other donkeys on.

That result is on the players, the management team and of course the recruitment team.

Marti has really struggled for one reason or another to consistently field our strongest 11 but…

Playing Dozzell and Dykes is effectively playing with 9 men.

Dozzell does nothing, lightweight, can’t tackle, can’t pass forward, doesn’t communicate and contributes no goals.
In his QPR career he made one pass of note and scored one goal, how that justifies a place in the starting 11 baffles me.

Dykes just isn’t good at scoring goals, he isn’t and never was good enough and the fact he is our main man is just a shambles.

Add to that our defence is woeful unless Cook is in there.

Have to agree with the OP. As I said in another thread, is it down to him or the players that we just farted about round our own box for the entire first half?
Either way, as utterly abject as Dykes is, he was completely marooned out there with no-one in hoops anywhere near him at any point. Beyond that, our passing was pedestrian and lacked purpose

Also Paal and Smyth continuing their embarrassing fun party trick of flinging themselves to the floor at the merest hint of contact then not getting right back up when the referee, quite rightly, okays on. Fk off with that sht

Said on another thread that Marti has tinkered too much recently. However, how do you legislate for their first goal? It's 0-0, we've played crap but get to half-time, have a word, maybe rejig something...and then you concede a goal like that in stoppage time.

There is literally no player on our right-hand side as Millwall attack us. It is shambolic. Then obviously the likes of Field (one of the umpteen on the left-hand side) are incapable of getting their body in the way of the cross. 1-0.

If you're conceding goals like that at any time, you're in trouble but particularly in stoppage time when all you need to do is get into the dressing-room level, then regroup.

Of course, you can say, well he selected those players and yes, I'd never let Kakay within 50 miles of Loftus Road, but unfortunately this is the hand he's been dealt. We assume he's been rotating because of fitness, and our squad is simply not strong enough to do this. This has been covered elsewhere but while the people who have failed repeatedly to recruit and develop our squad remain at the club (Ramsey seems untouchable despite his abject record), then we're going to continue to decline.

The bottom line is, like it or not, Colback & Cook are important to the team (Look at our results without them since the new Manager arrived), lots 'bang on' about Cannon (Look at the Saints goal, look how much game time he plays, missed a good chance yesterday in the second half - better than Kakay, only just, but Kakay is apparently poor), lots went overboard about Begovic when he signed - what a great signing, fantastic, fabulous, Premiership quality, etc. (Been very average indeed and threw another in yesterday & has no sense of urgency whatsoever), forwards, goalscoring ones, are missing.

What can the Manager do, at least he is trying to get us playing proper type football, I have no major issues with what the Manager is trying to do and who he picks. Yea, he has made some strange or different choices re subs, etc than we may have done but nothing major imho.

Harsh on Begovic - he’s made some very important saves over the last few matches.

I understand where you are coming from but he has been very inconsistent indeed, played well a couple of games but questionable on several more goals conceded & his kicking has not been good.

I'd say it's fairly major to set up a gameplan to play out from the back but have no-one in the midfield to drop into the middle to take the ball, either off Clarke Salter or Larkeche or Kakay.

Millwall countered this one dimensional tactic from the off. If you are going to start Dozzell, surely this is the role you want him to play.

Bringing on EDB opens the pitch up yet at the same time you withdraw our most effective player in the previous 15 minutes leaving Chair without support on the left flank and ineffective, again a major mistake imo.

Similar to bringing on Armstrong as a lone striker, bringing on Smyth and withdrawing Dykes, giving Kelman game time, these tactical errors are not helping.

Agree on Cannon, as WatfordR said, maybe looked good when coming on against 10 man Stoke but poor in Southampton goal and no-one's called him out for conceding that corner yesterday, had a chance to clear and didn't, no Dunne in the 6 yard box to defend (yet another tactical error) and it's game-over when before those substitutions a draw was possible.

The Ipswich games is going to be somewhat ironic.

Luongo who we happily binned a while back has re-emerged and looks to be a firm fixture in their midfield.

Meanwhile, Dozzell, who Ipswich fans told me prior to him joining that they felt he should move to a bigger/better club ( us !!) in order to improve.

You couldn't make it up

Feel free to criticise the manager but hopefully by now everyone has realised our predicament is down to the players, and has been the case the last two years regardless of who the manager is.

Somehow they managed to string three wins together, and since then have put the cue back on the rack.

Our only chance of doing well is getting our best XI out for every game (sadly not possible) and even then success is not guaranteed.

As for January reinforcements I doubt we can afford or recruit the players we need - who may not be available anyway.

Clearly the fans don't deserve League One but these players do - and only just avoided it last season due to Reading's points deduction.

But another change of manager should be avoided at all costs.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

Marti - Wrong Staring XI,Tactics + Subs on 10:48 - Dec 27 with 5821 viewsbaz_qpr

We have a few problems that only recruitment can fix.

The squad has half a dozen or more players who are just not Championship level or at best are sub players at this level.

Dunne, Kakay, Dozzell, Smyth, Armstrong, Richards, Adomah,

We then have Cook, Colback, Willock, Cannon, Fox, Clarke Salter who we can't get fit or keep fit

And we have no natural goalscorers neither upfront or in midfield.

He has to rotate because of the ones we can't keep fit, but what he has to rotate in have to play at their very best for us to be competive and when they dont (which will be often) we struggle. Our record with Dunne and Kakay in the team is terrible.

We are seeing the real effects of a squad that isn't actually able to stay fit. I think Marti has a game plan in general that rotates players and formations, but relies on the fitness of the squad to exercise formations, tactics and subs. Clearly the players aren't fit enough, often enough to do this.

I would imagine he and his staff has learnt a lot more about what the actual state of this squad is mentally and physically over the last 3 results than anything before that.

Unless he wants to go or gets moved on if we do drop to L1 I would very much hope that Marti would be able to completely dismantle this team, bin most of it, keep the few who he feels have the right fitness and mentality and be allowed to go across the country and Europe or further to find players who just have better mental and physical strength.

Never knowingly right.

Didn’t take long for some to turn did it ?
Of course he is not beyond criticism and I do think he has tinkered too much recently . His subs are now not working either (at the moment) which isn’t helping .

But you are deluded if you think this bunch aren’t the problem and you could have Klopp or Pep here and they’d still only have the same shower to work with .
We do forget that that the staff have all the data to hand, so if someone like Larkeche or Cannon is left out or subbed it’s probably because they are dangerously close to the red zone where injuries are 3 or 4 times likely to happen. And the one thing we can’t afford is injuries to our better players because then there really is no hope .

Also the other thing that’s happening, only in my opinion is that the fan base is utterly fed up of some of this lot so when the fresher faces (Larkeche, Cannon,EDB Etc) don’t play and we lose, then the coach gets it for picking (Kakay, Dozzell etc) the ‘familiar’ names .
But that’s all he’s got to work with . We, and myself included are just fatigued with some of this bunch not being good enough or not having any balls whatsoever.
They will be gone eventually but at the moment they have to play and that ain’t MC’s fault really .

Well, when I was at the training ground a month or so ago now they were working on playing the ball out from the back (the keeper), the Manager was doing a 'lot of explaining' stopping and starting, what he wanted......the first ball every time was to one of the CBs who were inside of the area. The second ball from the CD was either back to the keeper, across to the other CB or to the CM player who had come short to receive. The build had been started and the CM played it wide generally and forward we went......I was then ushered back into the building block so never saw much more.

So playing from the back is the way we will play......

The bottom line is though we need forwards to score goals, no question.

Marti - Wrong Staring XI,Tactics + Subs on 11:50 - Dec 27 with 5676 viewsParkRoyalR

The 2nd ball was either...to the CM player who had to come short to receive.

Millwall very quickly realised this 2nd ball option was'nt on yesterday as Field does'nt have the skillset to play this role and Dozzell does'nt have the energy or desire.

If we are to play this way, play Chair or EDB in the midfield to show for the ball, otherwise we'll be playing triangles in our own area like we did yesterday and we're not creating many chances (like we didnt yesterday) or scoring goals being so easily contained in our third of the pitch.

Cant be Chair - need him higher up the pitch.

We could do with Colback back in the team to replace Dozzell. And Cook in central defence as he’s been a mainstay on the rare occasions we’ve won this season.

I’m surprised that Marti continues to prefer Dozzell ahead of Dixon-Bonner. Maybe it’s an experience thing or something he’s seeing in training that’s not translating to match day performances.

Marti - Wrong Staring XI,Tactics + Subs on 12:39 - Dec 27 with 5521 viewsNorthantsHoop

We need to support Cifuentes, those of us who go regularly know that most of players are on the whole not good enough. Think his priority is to get a tune out of what is at his disposal and try and get enough results, especially at home to keep us up. What has been apparent for years since we came back down in 2015 is that we go on these rollercoasters of a couple of wins then a load of defeats. The trouble now is that since Beale left us in a mess, the mentality of this fragile group of players is probably totally shot. Will we escape relegation who knows, I still have hope but think the results in January will dictate our fate.

Marti - Wrong Staring XI,Tactics + Subs on 13:38 - Dec 27 with 5435 viewsParkRoyalR

Respectfully disagree we need him higher up the pitch, given he has scored 2 goals + has 4 assists so far this season?

Chair's stats per minutes played are poor (especially compared to Willock's who plays a similar role in the same team),

There is a strong argument that he slows down our attacking play in the final third by taking too many touches and not getting his head up quick enough to see the best pass (as with Smyth yesterday),

Chair is very fit, has desire + graft, has excellent ball control, can play on the half-turn and can play very accurate long & short passes.

If a 34 year old Barry Bannan can run games for Wednesday, Chair can do this for us in a way Johansen did when fit.

Marti - Wrong Staring XI,Tactics + Subs on 18:29 - Dec 27 with 5146 viewsHastings_Hoops

His kicking is the last thing we need to worry about… I mean, if we were Arsenal worrying about which goalie can distribute the ball best, then fair enough - but we’re not! Even when we were top London club, i wouldn’t have Stejskal or Roberts as prime distributors of the ball or massively consistent. He’s made some huge saves, which at our level is all we can ask really.
