Had this on this morning. It's enjoyable, there's very little QPR in it at all though. Good ten mins on Venables near the start, but the managerial stint doesn't get a mention at all.

His first away game for us as Manager was at Southampton, I went round the main entrance to meet a mate and our coach turned up and he got off first with a face like thunder, the players followed looking a bit scared, as if by magic we won 1-0 and I fell In Love with John Gregory.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

For those of you old enough to remember John Gregory playing for QPR from 1981 to 1985 what a lovely player he was. Don't care much for the time he was manager just loved watching him in that midfield during the Venables period. A bit of a journeyman and late developer as a cultured midfileder prior to joining us at 27 after starting his career at Northampton then progressing at Brighton and Aston Villa, also won his England caps at QPR under Bobby Robson in 1983/84 who used him as a utility player in a few games.

Its a really good listen, but nothing about his time as manager, little bit about his playing career with us but that's more about Venables.

I'd forgotten how successful he had been at Villa, he comes across well, relaxed and humorous, I always thought he was very serious as a player and manager.

I'm surprised the managerial stint didn't get a mention either (as you have said wasa very Villa Heavy episode with the Venables career influence the only QPR mention).

When Marc Bircham was on UTC he didn't speak too highly of JG (same with Gallen on something else I listened to a while back) - JG pretty much finished their QPR careers though.

I always liked Gregory. He was a really good midfielder. I thought he done pretty well as manager considering all that was going on.

I loved that game. Even Zesh Rahman looked ok. We were great at Southampton for a few of our early visits

To be honest he don’t get the recognition he deserves for keeping us up that season. Some great short term signings too like Sampsa Tamoska!

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

Had Danny Nardiello's on this morning. Fair bit on QPR here.
Big bits...
1 - bearing in mind we were meant to be properly skint at the time (Paladini chairman, pre-Briatore, Gregory in charge) he says that QPR absolutely blew Barnsley out of the water with a ridiculous wage offer. Says he came to London to discuss it with Gregory and he took him to a private casino where he was cobbing 50 quid notes about.
2 - Says that once the takeover was done QPR were cobbing "silly money at players from the same agent, lot of dodgy deals going on".
3 - Went out on loan, came back the following summer, Dowie told him he wasn't required, despite Dowie trying to sign him for Coventry the year before - it had been decreed from above he wouldn't be needed and Dowie had to go along with it.
4 - Speaks enormously highly of Ian Holloway at Blackpool.
