The 2023 Rugby World Cup Thread 22:00 - Aug 16 with 50466 viewsKeithHaynes

Our very own RWC thread.

Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England will join 16 other nations as they compete for the ultimate prize in rugby – the Webb Ellis Cup – which was last won by the Springboks in 2019. The opening match of Rugby World Cup 2023 will see hosts France face three-time winners New Zealand on Friday 8th September. The final will take place seven weeks later on Saturday 28th October.

Our local had a braai over Bank Holiday
Amazing the number of Saffas that got out when apartheid broke down

I don’t think they’ve got out of second gear physically. There’s a lot more to come from them. Imo.

They're far too strong for Scotland. Really hope they don't win the WC. Come on France or Ireland

Would love to see Ireland win it. Since professionalism their game has gone from strength to strength. Anyway Allez France.
Wales to beat Fiji tonight. Would love to see an open free running game of 🏉 or is that too much to ask for?

On another note it's fantastic to see the many great black South Africans playing for their country. Without the end of apartheid this would not have happened. They are there on merit which is just as important.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that.

I think we are going to see the same old game if attrition from Wales or long kicking out if hand. I’ll be surprised otherwise. I do think Fiji could win this though unless we’ve been hoodwinked by the performances in the warm up games.

To be fair, a little less excitable than normal. Someone’s had a word!

Anyone’s game at the moment. Wales must tighten up the defence as Fiji will keep on coming and the days of ‘never mind, they’ll tire in the last 20’ I think have long gone.

Think Wales have played well. Good performance from the captain and Dan Bigger has had a good game too. The tackle from Josh Adams superb.

Yes, but they’re starting to make mistakes niw. That yellow was needless and put the ball back in their court.

Not sure about Jac Morgan’s captaincy. I’d like to see / hear more from him but I’m not down there.

Best team lost. Fuji were excellent and Wales lucky. Discipline is an issue with Wales, the penalty count must be very high and could have cost them the game.

Yes in the last 15 mins but before that it was down to Fiji pressure.

Tremendous advert for the game
Great win but make no mistake we were lucky
Last 15 mins again could have ended up like that Australia capitulation
Gatland right not to be happy
Tomkins outstanding but not rated by many
He is utter class and why he is not captain beats me
Jac is too quiet
Biggar still thinks he is

Nice to see set pieces solid and both hookers go well
Faletau looked like he's not played in months and Wainwright blown off too many times

Fiji might well beat the convicts

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not
