Baseball at London Stadium this weekend *Non QPR 07:59 - Jun 24 with 3809 viewsthame_hoops

Is anyone going to the Cubs/Cardinals series at the London Stadium this weekend?

I’m an MLB diamonds volunteer for both days. Went yesterday for the batting practices where 3K fans were invited. Was really cool, seeing all the alternate hats and loads of English baseball team jerseys. Edit-which I never knew was a thing. So many clubs it seems

Looks like they made the foul area a bit smaller and the outfield walls higher, further back too? , can’t see as many runs as they were in 2019.

If you are going, keep hydrated, it’s gonna be warm. Although it was 26C yesterday, it was 29C in the bowl, it’s gonna be a lot hotter today.

The food and beer choices is amazing. So many choices and the return of the 2foot hotdogs

Don't have to say if you don't want mate but how much were your tickets? We had a look at it cos the step dad is mad baseball fan but the prices we got quoted were nuts.

I don’t have tickets. I’m volunteering just to stand around. I’ll get to watch most of it.

If you have a look on StubHub, tickets are as cheap as £27 although they are quite far back. Tomorrow’s tickets are even cheaper as the Saturdays more desirable.

Edit £39 for today and £27 tomorrow on stubhub. I would expect those prices to drop even more, the closer it gets to ‘kick off’

I've been to a number of games in the US and at various stadiums, some that no longer exist. Bar the big games, incl. Boston v Yankees, the cost of a ticket should be very low. This is a marketing play by MLB to get a wider following but also to fleece those who are curious. I won't be going.

Like non-league football I prefer minor league baseball. As they say, Minor Leagues, Major Fun.

It'd be interesting to see how many turn up for first pitch.

I think tickets got cheaper, demand was lower than expected, worth checking again

My kids often get tickets for nothing, or a tenner. A lot of people buy s/t's (they're a tax deductible if you have a business),but only attend the occasional fixture, it's not worth trying to sell them on most of the time.

We went to a couple of MLB games when we first went to the States back in 2016. We went to Red Sox v Orioles at Fenway Park, then later Phillies v Mets at Citizens Bank Park. Enjoyable evenings, Red Sox were more expensive (but smaller ground and thus bigger demand).

Phillies were much more friendly. It felt like the Red Sox, having all the history, are a bit snobbish about outsiders going to see them, whilst with the Phillies it felt like being at QPR ("You came to see us?! Wow thats great! Why on earth?")

Enjoy for anyone that's going. Given how against I would be an English football league game being played overseas I don't feel I could go to an equivalent in the UK as it would feel a tad hypocritical of me, although when you have 82 home games a season as they do I suppose losing 1 or 2 overseas isn't quite the same as 1 of 19!

True. But occasionally as a one-off these season tickets can go quite cheap. I got one above 3rd base at Fenway for $39 for a Sunday evening game v Yankees. It came on Starhub on Sunday morning and was due to the wife of an old couple not wanting a late night on a Sunday. I am sure you know what tickets to Yankees games can cost at Fenway and this was ten years ago. Generally, it was a lot cheaper at other grounds.

Might be the first time I've seen Philly fans referred to as friendly. This is the fan base famous for booing Santa Claus/Father Christmas. I believe it was a former Philly, Dick Allen, that said their fans would boo a cure for cancer. Nice to hear you found a friendly group.

The pitch clock that was implemented this year has really sped the games up. Some are now under 2 and a half hours which helps make the games more watchable.

I suppose it just depends who you come across on the day. For us it was just a bloke working in the club shop being really excited at discovering a couple of Brits had come to watch his team.

I suppose some people would have great experiences at visiting Cardiff/Millwall etc our side!
