Gazball 08:33 - Apr 30 with 32736 views | DWQPR | Was thinking that if more teams adopted Gazball as we’ve seen in the last couple of matches, could it leave the ball left on the halfway line with both teams sitting deep in their own halves waiting for the other team to make a move?

Gazball on 14:31 - May 3 with 2379 views | swisscottage | That's a great article. excerpt from that is especially poignant and applies to Burnley 2nd half, and Stoke pretty much the whole game, and to us in far too many games under previous managers and why we conceded so many counter attacking goals against teams setup to play like this against us. "But it’s been well documented in recent years that you can keep all the possession like Spain, but if you do nothing with it and just keep it in your own half and the middle third, teams will intentionally set up to play on the break and overcome the odds to be victorious."

Gazball on 17:31 - May 3 with 2067 views | E15Hoop | Thanks, Clive - brilliant timing, if I may say! To start the conversation, I quote from Dan's superb (as usual) piece: "It’s been interesting to see Ainsworth’s flexibility in adapting to the players’ needs against his principles" I'm sure several respondants will focus on the "against his principles" part. I (and several others) would prefer to focus on the "flexibility in adapting to the players' needs" part, as I would contend that he will continue to do that going forwards, judging by his own comments to date.

| "Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1." |

Gazball on 22:22 - May 3 with 1729 views | hubble | It certainly does put the cat amongst the pigeons, Clive, because it gives the lie to the idea that Ainsworth is either tactically rigid, or inept, or both: "it’s been interesting to see Ainsworth’s flexibility in adapting to the players’ needs against his principles, going from a rigid man-to-man approach to a zonal one, when other managers could easily stick to their guns." So much for what some have described as 'stone age' football. I've said it before, but I think GA is far smarter than people give him credit for - maybe the aging rocker look has triggered unconscious prejudice.

Gazball on 06:24 - May 4 with 1558 views | Wilkinswatercarrier | I'm not sure people on here have said he is inept. Having read the analysis I am delighted with how we are setup without the ball. We were so easy to play through, even under Warburton, and it's great that we are now harder to beat. Dont let the opposition score, you cant lose! The real test will be what we do with the football when we have it, and how we play when at LR, or when going behind and chasing the game. The squad is certainly going to need a big overhaul, more athleticism and pace required, something we've been crying out for for a couple of seasons anyway.
