Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 15:37 - Mar 11 with 2036 views | Messysaints | I dont find it an attack on free speach, He signed the contract for money to limit what posts on social media, if he didnt like it, he should not have aggred to it, if he didnt under stand his contract, then he shouldnt have signed it. Its his own doing i have 0 sympathy, and all those refusing to work because of it, well sack them too, its what would happen at any normal place or work. Next we going to get up in an uproar because players are not allowed to bet on there own football game lol, or managers, refs, and so on.. ohh wait, they already are not allowed. If you dont like the rules of a job you work at, get a different job.
Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 15:50 - Mar 11 with 2009 views | Ron11 | I agree this government is nowhere near blameless for a lot of things but attack on free speech? No. As posted elsewhere, what happened in Germany in the 1930's - boycott and destruction of Jewish businesses, mass book burnings, assassinations, Jews, Gypsies and other people Hitler did not like were banned from the 1936 Olympics, annexation of Austria and World War II. This government is trying to resolve a serious problem for this country and Lineker comes out with this utter shite, which is rightly objected to but the wokey left try and say it's an affront to free speech. Try saying that all recent terrorist attacks in this country have been by muslims and see the outcry that will inevitably follow that...

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 16:13 - Mar 11 with 1991 views | Jellybaby | The suspension of Lineker may have more to do with the BBC trying to save some money as a further 2 million people stopped paying their TV licence last year, so they may want rid of an overpaid underwhelming ex pro, especially when they can see how much better Mark Chapman is . I'm no fan of Gary, but this is pretty tame stuff and who cares what he thinks anyway. This is just further erosion of free speech, as we head ever more to a highly censored totalitarian society. For those of you who are upset with the BBC over this, put your money where your mouth is and stop paying the licence fee to a state sponsored news mouthpiece.

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 16:44 - Mar 11 with 1958 views | Bridders2 | Lineker has worked for the BBC for a lot longer and in a greater capacity than any other presenter, fronting many sporting events including the World Cup, the biggest. He has become THE face of the BBC! and benefited not only in his extreme wealth but in his large following (8 mil?) on twitter, made by all this exposure. He has set up his own production company to exploit this following with various podcasts on social media making him many more millions than he will receive from the BBC. (that's why he's not worried about losing his job). The result of this huge following is that he has disproportionate power to influence the masses with his misguided comments which are beyond dangerous. And he knows this. TV is a powerful tool and therefore the BBC has to be impartial, Lineker knows the rules and has chosen to ignore them and therefore needs to be saked.
Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 16:46 - Mar 11 with 1946 views | Messysaints | How is it an erosion of free speach?, he signed his free speach away for millions, lets look at that again...... He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did..He did.. No law saying he cant do it, he agreed to do it, he sold his rights away, if he didnt like the terms of his extremely well paid job, he should not have took it. It is apart of his terms with his employer, not the law of the country.

I don't even know what he wrote but if it was condemnation of this appalling government then there must be some justification. That said, he's fortunate to be able to do it with little fear of eating or drinking something that would most likely kill him or worse still accidentally falling out of a 10th floor window. You can still say what you think . For how much longer remains to be seen

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 06:47 - Mar 12 with 1581 views | Berber | https://news.sky.com/story/amp/the-bbcs-guidelines-on-impartiality-explained-and Sums it up pretty well, especially quoting a former BBC news editor ( who knows this stuff back to front) stating that it looks dubious to discipline GL. The Independent ( that I hate) has a list of the actual contract clauses, which makes it look even more tenuous. Put in light of the BBCs appointment as part of Boris’s dodgy self interest use of power, you have to wonder at the BBCs bending over to accommodate a failing government.

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 07:34 - Mar 12 with 1557 views | Berber | If you do just a tiny bit of research, there is plenty of information on the internet, with many BBC staff and former staff offering insider insight regarding how this has,and currently works, you would see that it is not so clear cut. Especially as TimDavies changed the rules to be more vague, after the commencement of GL’s contract. There is ample evidence that the BBC are swaying towards leniency for those with more right wing views and against those with more left wing views.. Roger Mosey, a former head of BBC TV News who is now the master of Selwyn College, Cambridge, argued that while Lineker’s tweets were not compliant with its editorial guidelines, the corporation had been “inconsistent” in applying those guidelines over the years, adding: “Their statement about not wanting Lineker to be ‘an opinion-free zone’ is an example of murkiness. The corporation also hasn’t explained why Lineker is restrained but Alan Sugar and co seem not to be.”

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 11:38 - Mar 12 with 1479 views | UTS1885 | Lineker has clearly been taking the piss out of the BBC with his social media posts despite previous warnings. The BBC impartiality rule should be valid for all its presenters. I had a family member working at the BBC in the previous decade and the rules on SM are very clear. The BBC is a public funded operation and should be totally neutral in politics, but that clearly not been the case in recent years. [Post edited 12 Mar 2023 11:39]

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 11:46 - Mar 12 with 1459 views | Southamptonfan | Lineker is entitled to his opinion. This isn't in doubt. But the Nazis put Jews in concentration camps for slaughter. We have been putting up people in top hotels, all expenses paid for. We have people risking their lives and their children, to cross the Channel when they are already in a safe country. People smugglers are rampant. We can't just let them all in. The government is trying to address this issue, even if it's the wrong policy. GL just simply isn't right to compare the situation to Nazis and hence the controversy. He has a job reporting on football. He was stupid to announce his views like that in public. He could have just said "what a bad policy, I totally disagree with it". Or he could just said nothing and voted accordingly at the next election. And all would have been fine. [Post edited 12 Mar 2023 11:54]

Lineker to be hosting MOTD no longer… on 12:51 - Mar 12 with 1402 views | GRIM | Trouble is, if they sack GL (as they quite rightly should) it's very likely that they'll replace him with a Woman presenter, there's at least one woman on every football show now, so Beeb will not hesitate to be politically correct & have MOtD hosted by a female. Sorry but I'd rather watch it as it was last night with no presenters, just action.
