Back 4? 17:27 - Feb 18 with 3476 viewsEalingHoop81

I appreciate it was working earlier in the season but I am absolutely baffled as to why we haven’t reverted to a back 3. One of the first things good managers tend to do is shore up the back line. We look pretty toothless going forward and without Chair and Willock working in tandom have looked goal shy for over 2 years.
Over the past 5 years, probably longer, we have looked far more comfortable with 3 at the back than playing a back 4. Given our position, inability to keep clean sheets etc I would have thought changing to a back 3 with wing backs would have at least helped reduce the tide of goals against. We just look so easy to play though

Totally agree and it's NC's reluctance to do this that is making me wonder if he's actually as food a coach as I thought he was when he came in. We're just doing the same thing game after game. Try something f ucking different please.

We’re conceding 3 a game….anyone…

But seriously, pre the injury Kakay could have played there, Masterson before being loaned out, JKS when he was fit. Today possibly Gubbins….but this could have been tried 6 weeks ago

Honestly if there is nobody else fit, with Masterson on loan I'd give Gubbins a go. Tim should be nowhere near the first team so Field must stay in midfield, could Dozzell play on the left of three?

Only worked while Balogun was in the team. Poor before he arrived and poor post his injury. We simply don’t have 2 good enough without him. Warburton worked that out when he was a couple of games from the sack in Jan 21. Kakay wouldn’t be ideal, but he is a CH by trade

Agree we've been paying him for years. Time to sink or swim.

Exactly It seems like the whole message board wants us to go to 3 at the back, Ive been saying it for weeks, ok Critchley could possibly use the injuries as an excuse but we did play Kakay there with some success under Warbs and if they practised it in training then they could eve use Gubbins, it now shows that loaning out Masterson again was a mistake, this would be his ideal opportunity.

We had plenty of success with a back three under Warbs, obviously we had Barbet who was a natural left sided player and it brought the best out of Dickie and Dunne. The only other Manager I would trust to get us out of this mess is Uncle Neil, but that boat has sailed, interesting with his very first team selection yesterday he chose a back three, old school get a solid defence and build from the back, the lucky b*gger was able to make seven team changes yesterday because he didn't have all our injuries and had a squad that was strengthened in January.

Having checked the highlights the last few weeks it appears for the goals we're waving through, we are playing with a back three but all on one side. Absolutely abysmal.

Totally agree.

We should have gone to a back 3 in January, but need to do this now for sure. Kakay or Gubbins in with Dickie and Dunne. Critchley might need to either use Adomah as a rwb or promote Drewe or another for the U23s.

Using a back 4 QPR have conceded 3 against Luton Hull Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Also 2 against Fleetwood, Reading and Millwall. Sticking with it and hoping for better results is just utter stubbornness or madness.

The biggest problem we have is with noone other than Field tracks back from midfield. And with him being further forward to accommodate Dozzell in the quarterback role this leads us wide open to counter attacks.

and Chair/Lowe/Adomah don't track their runner either. Chair was especially guilty of this on Saturday, for all his work he does chasing/pressing in the opposition half, he's is appalling at tracking back with the opposition fullback.

He is either stupid or deliberately trying to get the sack and a 3.5 year contract pay off. It must be one or the other.

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.
