FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 139822 viewsSnipper

I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.

I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.

I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Do any of you think England have a chance?

Agree. Justice done.

You would like to have Szczęsny in your team in the knockout rounds if it goes to penalties.

They're playing this at Stadium 974. Nice of them to name it after the workers that died building it.

Can someone remind me me of why a player called MacAllister is playing for Argentina? Is he descended from one of those members of Ally's Tartan Army who never made it home after 1978?

OMG that free kick Mexico have just scored! Like a rocket, right in the corner, from way, way out. Stunning

Another bucket list thing is a trip to Buenos Aires to watch a couple of games.Boca juniors v river plate at the chocolate box followed by a giant Argentinian steak dinner.

Poland need to get with the programme here. They need something from this and they're capable but appear to be relying on results going their way. Stupid.

Let’s hope they do some repairs before then!

You’d have to say there’s possibly a brown envelope involved there . A disgraceful pathetic decision.
Why else would you give it?

They had a player called Brown in the 80’s/90’s.

Argentina another side I don’t think England should be scared of, with or without Messi.

Has Messi ever played against England?

They also had players called Houseman and Babington in the 70s.

Lots of Scots, Cornish, and Welsh in Patagonia. Come from the mining days in the 1800s.

Welsh the main language spoken in some villages to this day. They have the most Welsh speakers outside of the UK.

I think it was them who introduced football to the country.
Google says it was a Scotsman called Alexander Hutton who brought football to Argentina.

Argentina slowly growing into this tournament and I fancy them to be there or thereabouts at the end.

After Argentina beat Mexico on Saturday, fans gathered in my local park and banged drums until 3am. Could do without them winning this bloody thing or they'll be even more unbearable

Shocking lack of ambition. I hope they get stuffed in the next round.

No. We last played them in 2005 (friendly in Geneva). Messi had not long made his debut but he wasn't involved that night.
