I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.
I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.
I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

I think it was a good goal but cue commentator and pundit w@nkathon. If Messi had scored that second goal the Saudi's scored against Argentina, we'd never hear the end of it.

I suppose one could argue that Ronaldo has been more effective at times but personally I’d rather watch a football genius. IMO Messi is the greatest to ever play the game.
He is obviously showing his age and his body must be completely fcked from being kicked up in the air for more than 20 years but even now his skill is still better than most could ever dream of. [Post edited 26 Nov 2022 20:59]

Greatest ever?
I think Ronaldo would improve any team like Maradona did. Put him in an average team and he will score goals no matter what. Messi on the other hand always played in the top team domestically and is more like the pièce de résistance in a squad that is demontrably world class so its really difficult to know.
But neither get close to Maradona in terms of natural footballing ability in my opinion. He won the world cup with an Argentina team that wouldn't have had a prayer without him. Then there's where Napoli were when he signed and how he lifted that club to league titles and European honours all in an age of bad pitches and little protection by officials. | | | |
