The real gauge as to the appetite for Welsh separatism. 15:33 - Aug 25 with 9585 viewsLohengrin

Despite all the Yes Cymru stickers you’ll encounter on road signs, despite the obvious enthusiasm for political self-immolation you’ll see from a few on here and on the other place, this is the real state of public enthusiasm.

If you think the likes of Johnson and Truss give a damn for Cymru then you are mistaken.

The constitutional question is ever evolving.
Scotland will get its vote and they will rejoin the EU.
The north of Ireland will have a border poll and will join Ireland as per of the EU.
Both these things are almost certain to happen - the SNP and Sinn Fein are elected and in power.

What then for Cymru ?
Cymru-shire as part of greater Brexit England ? Or,
Follow the other celtic nations as a modern democracy in the EU.

The Welsh Government Commission reports back initially at end of 2022 and then formerly at the end of 2023.

There is no status quo option. The rest of the UK is already changing around us.

I don’t know how closely you’ve been following the news this last week but workers at thirteen or so Scots councils have now walked out in protest at Holyrood.

That vote you mentioned, IF it happens is only going one way.

Yes agreed - it is sure to give Comrade Nicola yet another huge mandate.
Brexit has changed everything.

Thats why the yoons are trying to deny the vote.
They are running scared.

I’ve only just got back from Scotland and I can tell you now with a degree of certainty it will switch back to majority Labour much sooner than later.

Think the Scottish are getting fed up with Commrade Nicola. Scottish NHS failing, Scottish Education system failing, Scottish life expectancy falling. Nicola and her green friends are even trying to stop further exploration of the North Sea gas and oil reserves during a Global energy crisis.
Give the over 18 and over living in Scotland a vote plus any Scottish born living in the rest of the UK will be a decisive vote for the United Kingdom. Even the latest polls show only 44% of Scottish voters want independence the same as at the last referendum.

In Wales still only 24%

Inevitable when people wake up to the fact the SNP are not a progressive or left-wing party, all but traditional conservatives without unionism. Clearly already changing in cities back towards Labour', and with an effective leader in Anas Sarwar are likely to take seats from the SNP in the future.

Plaid are back to the party of intellectual chin-strokers they were in the 50s and 60s where culture and language, not Leanne Wood's socialism, holds sway. Unmemorable and unremarkable politicians not of the calibre of Gwynfor Evans, Elis-Thomas or Wigley.

Regional power is a good thing but neither Holyrood or Cardiff Bay are delivering that equitably. SNPs lack of any effective policy outside of independence is clear. In comparison you may dislike Drakeford, but an intellectual heavyweight next to Jimmy Krankie.

And this is from a left-wing perspective.

Nothing much then compared to the enormous damage of Tory Brexit.
And corrupt covid contracts.

The debate in Cymru has only just begun. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
1 in 4 is a great place to start.

Devo max might even win in Cymru, who knows eh ?

Seems the Welsh not really keen then on foreigners who flock here taking our jobs and appealing for asylum then.

It's a great effort too refering to the country as Cymru hoping it usups English. Odd that this board is exclusively English and language zealots discourse in English.

But they are surely hypocrites to go on and on about the Welsh language when they rip into people-like me-who question its validity on a modern Wales. Apart from the BBC ,Welsh creates few jobs.

I recall Swansea have little interest in Welsh Independence

It ain't going to happen....end of!
I used to do a lot of work for relatives of Mr Wigley in the 90's. They were wonderful Welsh speaking people who treated me fantastically and remunerated me generously. They were great clients even though I disagreed with their politics. These were not your bucket hatted, left wing Trotskyites. They were extremely well paid , well healed upper class professionals. Some might think archetypal Tories!
As for Northern Ireland. I personally think they would be better of sticking with the status quo (although you can only take so much 12 bar boogie ) The hard line Unionists would just not except separation from the UK and we will be back to the bad old days of the 70's and 80's and no right thinking person will want to see that.

Fortunately you wont get to vote.

Our welsh national football team is branded as Cymru now.
Thats good enough for me. Their twitter is @Cymru.

Most countries in the world have no issue with 2 languages. Its normal.

Listen the 2021 census tells us some 636,000 people living in wales were born in England.

The majority in favour of England Brexit was only 82,225.
Only half that number needed to vote Remain for Remain to win in Wales.

You know, just a little more than the population of Llanelli.

Draw your own conclusions.

I do believe Rhondda, Cynon Valley voted out. Not all English people who reside in Wales are Brexiteers or Tories. I would think many were working class, Labour. Sold their houses and came here to live a better life.
I know a few in my family. Labour through and through and all that nonsense.. Couldn't wait to vote out. Immigration, whether right or wrong being a big one for them.

Of course there is a mix and there is no absolute.
Very many in the north of Wales are retirement age people from Liverpool or Manchester.

But why would your family vote for this for Wales ?

You keep spouting the same thing thread after thread but that’s not going to be enough for it to happen. It won’t happen in Scotland or here, especially here.

As for the subject of the thread, I skim read it so may have missed something but didn’t it say it was going online? Surely that means journos and columnists will still be needed as before?
