For not being bigoted,

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/florida-senate-passes-bill-to-strip-disney-

Now I'm not part of the woke brigade but schools are there to educate about issues not ignore them.

I think that you will find that there is a massive difference between being bigoted, being neutral and being promotional.
Disney is about entertainment, not pushing a "woke" agenda.

Florida punished Disney for disagreeing with the States stance on educating about LGBT issues.

There is nothing woke in having a fair representation of people or educating about it. I agree there is a line to be drawn though, they can go too far. The Christian right though, they'd go too far the other way. A gay person is still a person, aren't they?

" A gay person is still a person, aren't they?"
Of course they are.
But pushing it on children is not on.
Are you aware that US State schools have been showing and providing books on Pornography to young children, there are some pretty sick things going on over there.
Look up after school satanic clubs.

Back on the reliable sources I see.

It’s nothing but bigotry and de Santis’s ambitions for the MAGA bigots. Disney is hardly a left wing organisation out to corrupt. It’s reflecting its customer base which are pretty wealth and educated. Many are gay. Perhaps the governor and his homophobic cronies want to reflect on the 20 million visitors each year to the House of Mouse. Not just supporting Disney but thousands of jobs and businesses.

So-called Christians again supporting hatred, bigotry and avarice.

Sex eduction and thing like LGBTQ should only be taught in the last year of comp.

Even when you know, you never know?

That story is across most news sites, so it has nothing to do with reliable sources as you yet again incorrectly suggest.
We will see whether Disney is really reflecting their customer base won't we?

Some people are gay, others are straight, some kids have a mum and dad, others have none, or one, or 2 of each.

Some people love people of the same sex, others opposite, others both.

Simple way to teach kids that what’s matters most is love, irrespective of who it’s to. If two people love each other, that’s fabulous.

Lesson done.

My son is in year 8, there is an openly gay girl and an openly gay boy in his year. Of his old friends, from before we moved, there is a boy who has started transgender treatment. They are all 13 years old, the last year of comp will be a bit late for them.

I really can't believe that someone in your position just wrote that.
You do not seem to see the obvious problem that concerns parents of young children being introduced to these concepts at Kindergarten age and above with your "teach kids that what’s matters most is love, irrespective of who it’s to".
The fact that "love" is often expressed as affection & sex it means that those children can easily be targeted by paedophiles where the love is definitely not appropriate but could be made to appear so.

So what happens when a little girl turns up at school talking about her two Mums ?
Do you ignore the natural confusion of the other children or do you explain it as John has put it across in his post ?

Considering how much money Florida and Orlando in particular makes from the many tourists attracted there every year by Disney, I cannot understand them butting heads with them.
Disney could easily decide to invest money into a new resort in another more welcoming state and eventually move away from Florida.
This would leave a gaping hole in Florida's tourist economy

People aren't introduced to those concepts at kindergarten (obvs you just swallow alt right propaganda with the use of that word) age. They are born gay/straight/trans as they are black or white.

How on earth awareness of other sexual preferences makes them more easily targeted by paedophiles I'd love to know.

The idea of not teaching sexual education until a few years after a child could be a parent is one of the daftest things I've heard.

I didn’t feel I had to corroborate what I said by excluding paedophiles from ‘love is love’. It obviously, I would have thought, it entirely excludes those loathsome people from teaching children that gay, straight, bi, I doesn’t matter.

There is no correlation at all between gay people and child abuse. I’m on the Sex Offences Prosecution panel, so a lot of my work is spent prosecuting people like this and spending time with the children and those who care for them.

Not once has a parent said ‘oh, if only we did not tell them that gay people are just the same as mum and dad.

‘Someone in my position ‘ understands this topic a lot more than most unfortunately as I have to delve into this world and cross examine these people. The overwhelming majority are men offending against girls, there are men who offend against boys. The similarity is that they are sexual perverts who rape children. Gay or straight,

I genuinely hope you are posting simply to be controversial or have misunderstood what I said.

It’s a simple concept. People are born with the sexual preferences. What’s controversial about that ?

Yet this idea of homosexuality is a perversion persist and is propagated by the likes of DeSantis and the evangelical right. It's a low denominator to play to fears and in-bedded bigotry of the brain-washed or poorly educated. The use of conversion therapies to deny people their natural instinct. Most gay people I have met have known they are gay from a young age. Denial of that love is nothing but hatred and bigotry.

Unfortunately it still has to be said.

Disney has in excess of 20 million visitors to Disneyworld each year. Employs around 80,000 directly and probably more indirectly. Average spend per visitor is big, As you will know if you ever visit.

On top of that the residents of Orange and Osceola counties will have to foot the bill for public services currently provided by Disney.

Going to hit the pocket.

But sexuality has nothing to do with love. I love my best friend but I wouldn’t ever want to shag him.

Think of all the people you have slept with, can you honestly say you were in love with all of them? Sexuality has more to do with attraction or lust, not love.

Florida punish Disney on 09:46 - Apr 22 with 5552 viewsSirjohnalot

Very fair point and that can be explored at a later age but the initial point I think was about young kids and what they should be taught.

All I was saying is that there’s nothing wrong with explaining on a basic level about how people are attracted to different genders.

I returned to posting with a proviso not to comment on anything religious. I'm buggered now as someone else has brought it up.
How religion is rammed into kids from an early age,how bigotry stems from that and how it affects other I will leave others to offer comments. Homosexuality clearly seen as a perversion that should lead to death . Its all in the Bible,in Leviticus. We in Wales were imbued in this pre puberty.
Not only that but we have many who seek to proselytise.

Predictable response from a bigot too. Nothing to do with left or right.
Everything to do with humanity. Do you not think there are homosexuals or bisexuals on the right?

As always, lots of hyperbole on this subject about young children being 'taught' about LGBT (whatever that means).

In primary schools (in England) only the following is stautory.

Pupils should know:

- that families are important for children growing up because they can give love, security and stability
-the characteristics of healthy family life, commitment to each other, including in times of difficulty, protection and care for children and other family members, the importance of spending time together and sharing each other’s lives
-that others’ families, either in school or in the wider world, sometimes look different from their family, but that they should respect those differences and know that other children’s families are also characterised by love and care
-that stable, caring relationships, which may be of different types, are at the heart of happy families, and are important for children’s security as they grow up
-that marriage represents a formal and legally recognised commitment of two people to each other which is intended to be lifelong
-how to recognise if family relationships are making them feel unhappy or unsafe, and how to seek help or advice from others if needed

Any deviation from this has to be done in consultation with the parent body. The curriculum has to be posted on the school website. Parents have the right to withdraw their children.

Doesn't seem too controversial to me...

It’s much too late then, it needs to start off much earlier than that. We’re in the 21st century, kids can get access to all sorts of information on the internet, it’s important sex education is delivered responsibly. If kids aren’t getting the education in school or at home, they’ll just go on line and who knows what they’ll end up reading.

I know a family who’s daughter began having periods just after her 10th birthday, leaving education until the last year of comprehensive school would be way too late.

I'd suggest that religion that these bigoted opinions stem from is far more responsible for the mess the world is in than awareness of homosexuality.
