Hornets on Sunday 19:31 - Feb 24 with 298967 viewsEllDale

They’re tweeting that their “matchday operations” are being restricted for the home game against Barrow on Sunday for reasons that they don’t want to divulge at the moment.
The bottom line is that the crowd capacity is limited to 920 and there will be no cash admissions on the day.
Wonder what that’s all about?

Unfortunately other than The Cemetry, there is nowhere else to drink....in the end though supporters will only put up with so much, nearing on £6 a pint is quite scandalous and not the way to treat fans.

£7 a pint in certain places in Manchester now.

That’s outrageous. Surely it won’t be that much in London ?

After a family dinner (which I subsidised after selling my house) I was treated to a couple of cans of IPA for a fiver each at Grand Pacific Mcr. The pint equivalent price was £8.60. They don't even have lines to clean out either. Sure I've paid more in the past too. Small bottle of water at an airport. Captive audiences. Short and curlies.

Changes to the stadium at Huddersfield as well. The old concept of groundsharing is changing rapidly!

I've looked at the original tweet on Twitter and it still hasn't had any replies.

I was under the impression that the Bars at the Crown Oil Arena were run by the football club and any income went to them. If that is so Hornets can hardly be held responsible for the prices charged on Sunday.
To answer the comment re spectators being able to sit in the stand an consume alcohol its a simple answer. Rugby League fans know how to behave unlike some football fans. I could sit supporting Hornets sat next to an Oldham Rugby supporter with both of us enjoying a beer.
The following day we would have to sit in separate stands if Rochdale AFC were playing Oldham. Oh and no alcohol sat watching the match.
We might have our problems but at least know how to behave.

In any pub the landlord sets the prices.

Its also undeniable that the cost of everything is going up. Here's a Daily Mirror article from last month:

Cost of beer could soar to £7 per pint
https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/beer-prices-could-rise-50p-26050928

The patron has the choice not to buy; the landlord has choice of not to serve.

The grumbles over the price of a pint have been ongoing since the beginning of time.

No one is immune from inflation, neither Dale or Hornets fans supping a pint.

Where did anybody question why rugby fans are allowed to drink in the stands while football fans aren’t? A quote of the post will do.

Ta.

Nobody did. I just needed to point out the difference between the Rugby supporter and the Football supporter and who sets the prices. Previously someone had asked the question why beer was available sat watching the rugby.

What somebody said previously was "How was ale being drunk on the terraces when only the main stand was open?" No question of beer being improperly available to drink in the Main Stand. Probably a semantical error, but some holier than thou people can't resist twisting things round to have a bit of a dig.

Probably football fans to blame.

I can’t remember the last time I saw trouble at a Hornets game. About 35 years ago I recall seeing a drunken Keighley fan led around the ground and ejected. It was a very hot day though.

I saw some v Batley a few seasons ago . From memory it was Batley v Batley just down from the bar entrance.

Now you mention it I remember that. Was it the one with two Batley ( I think ) ) women that ended up fighting in the ladies toilets. From what I heard it was the mum of a lad and the ex girl friend of the lad having a domestic. PC Plod was called if it’s the same incident.

I can guarantee one thing - you won’t see any fans invading the pitch to confront an opposition player at a Hornets. Nobody’s that brave.

Back in the days when I used to follow both teams, I recall quite a lot of trouble when Hornets played Salford at Spotland. Caused entirely by a dozen or so drunken and aggressive Salford fans, but it went on for the entire match. I'm sure Bigdoug will have been there; unless he was receiving his sainthood that day.

It's all down to percentages.
There's less likelihood of crowd trouble at Hornets with their average gates than at some Super League or even Championship clubs.
I know a lot of people who won't go to Featherstone or Widnes because of incidents in the past and when these two met last season there was was what was described to me as a "pitched battle" between opposing fans outside the ground.
Hull fans have a shocking reputation within the game and there have have been several incidents of coach windows being broken at Warrington over the last couple of seasons.
1

Hornets on Sunday on 12:56 - Mar 3 with 2859 viewsmingthemerciless

Yes, the last time I personally saw real fighting type trouble at a Hornets game it was at the old Athletic Grounds and that was against Hull. That was outside the ground.

I have watched plenty of Rugby League, from when I was a toddler trough to age 30, and the grounds which had issues, were always grounds that did not have a Football team. (The exeption, in my experience, being Castleford) Many have already been mentioned in the thread already Warrington being the worst, IMHO.
The problem is in society, whatever percentage that is, so Rugby will have its issues, but not as much as Football.
Have seen plenty of fights at Ice Hockey, but never in the crowd.
