Genuine Open Question to Dave Sweetmore 14:23 - Jan 23 with 14507 viewsLaveritty

Just a few days ago Elvis Costello very publicly asked DJs and radio stations to stop playing his song Oliver's Army because of its use of a certain well documented offensive word.

Whilst not wishing to get into a debate about the use of the word in question and its offensiveness I would simply like to ask why you then thought it would be appropriate to play the said song yesterday?

It was a staggeringly crass decision in my opinion!

Poll: Would you prefer relegation to happen…

It started quite a while back, the word "agendas" seems to come up on this board quite a bit. Someone somewhere must feel quite the trend setter! There's no agenda on my part but there are genuine growing concerns.

Your absolutely right, the music and the individual playing it should be inconsequential. It's absolutely a bizarre circumstance when they aren't.

That being said, I didn't find Andy Curran's language inconsequential, or the language directed at Abraham Odoh via social media.

I certainly don't think it's remotely acceptable to broadcast it over the tannoy, especially when it's against the artists request, especially when it's a club employee with a track record of pushing buttons with grim language.

My thoughts were the Top House but just been on Street View and it's boarded up! The Midland Beer Company is directly opposite Railway Approach but that is up for sale too - not sure if it's still trading?

Of course he may not have been in a pub, as 1907 didn't report a pint glass in his hand. Anyway, it's probably not a Big Issue?
