I can understand the need for change during the pandemic,but once they’ve done away with them this season will they ever come back? If the big clubs have their way they won’t.But for the smaller clubs,a replay against one of the big boys could support them for years.

fa cup offy page states pens after extra time, with the stupid Qatar world cup next november, fixtures were already congested, domestic, international games etc maybe makes sense but many fans remember classic ties going to a couple of replays , obviously not with qpr lol

We have had quite a few actually. Here are some of the early ones, post WW2.
In 45-46 season , 3rd round, we drew 0-0 in both games with Palace and then at Craven Cottage, won 1-0.
In the 52-53 season we drew the opening two matches, both 2-2, of the 1st Round with Shrewsbury Town only to lose at Villa Park in the third 4-1.
In the 54-55 season and again Highbury was our demise. We played Walthamstow Avenue. This was the 1st round as well. 2-2 in both early games and then four more goals in the Highbury match, except we lost 4-0.

The longest "match" was in the 1971/72 season in the 4th Qualifying Round. Alvechurch beat Oxford City in the 6th match & had to play their 1st round match a couple of days later.
I ws present at the first match when Ipswich needeed 3 replays to beat Leeds in the 6th round in 1975. The matches were saturday, tuesday, monday & two days later on the wednesday.
