I try to stay off this board for a few hours after we lose, emotions are always high and tend to think in the cold light of day I can take a step back and try to give a reasonable response to a performance both good and bad but tonight honestly I don't know how I am going to sleep after seeing that Austin goal. That was a scandalous robbery by Stroud, not even close I can't get my head around what he thinks he's seen.

I don't care about how bad the penalties were, what we did well and badly in the other 95 minutes of that game, that one decision has killed me

VAR is far from irrelevant - the goal would have counted!!!!!

Has anyone got a video highlight of this as seeing it is the only thing I can think is going to make feel any less angry this morning

Stroud signalled GOAL straight away and pointed to the centre circle. It was the Lino with his flag up that changed the situation.

Unless some people are suggesting Stroud pre-planned the whole thing with the officials and was just acting when he originally gave the goal?

Mental.

The ref was not at fault for disallowing the goal......simples.

But many will blame the ref because it is Stroud....wrong.

People make mistakes. If you don’t want VAR then these incidents will happen. Stroud gave the goal. I don’t know who the linesman is flagging offside. I think it’s Albert in which case you can’t give handball either.

Who fcking cares? It was the league cup which we were never going to win anyway. If we had half a brain we should have still won on penalties playing at home, taking the first kick and at the Loft End.

Concentrate on the big picture - promotion to the Prem. The linesman is a c@nt. End of now move on

Poll: Where will we finish up next season?

Yes you could, Austin wouldn't have been offside when the ball was handled as he only became active when the rebound went to him.

He definitely wouldn't be given offside if Albert had scored.

We should care, lost out on prize money, potential quarter final and big pay day against one of the big boys. It should matter, I'm still fuming about it and feel worse every time I see it

If linesman has given Albert as offside then it’s a free kick to Sunderland so what happens after is irrelevant.

Nope.
Marginal decisions I can live with. Two decisions there not marginal. VAR not needed for that. Albert ain't offside either.

Bare bones.

How is it wrong to say its not his fault? Stroud is the overall official in charge, he is not ruled by his linesmen, he can overrule them.

He is the manager of the game and any errors ultimately lie with him, much as people like to lay into managers when we lose football matches.

Clearly he didn't do it hard enough.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

It’s a goal. No one is offside. It’s not marginal. You shouldn’t need VAR for decisions like this but some people are incompetent and make bad errors. VAR stops glaring errors like this.

Stroud is a tiny cockwomble but it would be pretty much unprecedented for a referee behind the play to overrule a linesman in line with the play waving his flag telling him the goal was offside.

How often have you seen a referee overall a linesman offside decision? He may think it’s onside but I imagine he’s going to trust his assistant who has the best view. Looking at it again, I genuinely think he’s giving Albert as offside.

Totally agree Dave, it was a legitimate goal, and automatically robs us of £25K for reaching the next round. We draw, City, Chelsea at home and then its a full house plus TV money on top of that. For arguments sake 17,000 fans at £25 = £425K, not counting merch, food & drink. Lets just say half a million.
We can maybe frame another letter of apology from the EFL to go in the trophy room but I doubt we will hear another word from the offiicals. Scandalous.
Still livid and I can't believe Stroud didnt see the push on Dykes in the first half either.

Poll: Remy - can he play in the playoffs - who's opening post is the best?

"I genuinely think he’s giving Albert as offside"... which he is not of course ... which ever way you want to slice it and dice it (Lyndon, Albert, Charlie, Jude the flamin' Cat) the lino got it terribly wrong

But the linesman didn't flag. Didn't flag at any point of it. Didn't flag during the celebrations. They had a discussion between them, came up with that, and then he raised the flag.

Offside on 11:19 - Oct 27 with 1517 viewsNed_Kennedys

Yes he did flag. Goal went in, I immediately looked at the little ref who signalled goal, then my attention went to the players celebrating in front of me at the corner of the Loft and Paddock. Then everyone saw the Lino had put his flag up which was well before Stroud was anywhere near him.

Am another one feeling even angrier today than last night... Am just speechless, really. Futile to be angry, but easier said than done to move on given what those would have meant for us as a club

No, its Stroud, he still would have disallowed it.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

And just to give you all that warm fuzzy feeling you so crave in these difficult times this morning.
We, as a club, pay £50,000 a year to the referees association to ensure the continued high level of performance from these elite referees.
Think someone should be demanding a refund.

Offside on 11:27 - Oct 27 with 1486 viewsLanhoop

I wonder whether these apology letters could be put in some smart frames and hung artfully, in a kind of hall of fame way, just outside the ref's changing room?

I suppose the risk is it might just encourage them to see who can get the most.

Offside on 11:41 - Oct 27 with 1396 viewsThe_Beast1976

I suspect your opening paragraph may well be precisely what happened. Having heard "offside" in his ear he panicked, thinking he had missed it, and raised his flag
0

Offside on 12:08 - Oct 27 with 1296 viewsAntti_Heinola

I was watching the lino, because I'm always the only one around me who spots an offside flag.
We scored. He stood. We celebrated. He stood. Stroud looked over to him, he looked at Stroud. He raised his flag. There was a ridiculous amount of time between ball crossing line and flag going up and the idea they didn't at least talk over their earpieces is a nonsense. I'm not saying Stroud told him to put his flag up, but the guy was paralysed, not signalling goal, but not signalling offside either. Stroud probably said 'make your mind up' or similar. But once the flag was up, Stroud should have pointed to the spot for an obvious penalty.

Bare bones.
