It's all great until they decide to walk away or stop pumping money in. We're obviously all concerned about dodgy owners at the moment but I also wouldn't be too thrilled about a Dale fan multi millionaire coming in and running the club unsustainably. Still needs a proper business plan and not just good intentions.

The idea that a millionaire is going to just dump a couple of million a year into a football club forever is hugely fanciful. Elton John didn't actually put a penny into Watford, he simply guaranteed a £1m loan from the bank, but then a million in those days was a huge number.

Building a sustainable club is a hugely difficult undertaking with the vagaries of good and bad seasons and which clubs you play during the season and your capacity to sell a player at a good profit. Sunderland at home is great financially, Southend not so much. If a division becomes dominated by local clubs, happy days for some but not others if their crowds are smaller as a result of travelling distances. There is a strong argument for a return regional divisions per the old Div3 N&S.

Building a sustainable club is a challenge whilst each division has such disparity in funding. In theory the likes of Sunderland should comfortably be sustainable, but their financial challenges over the past 5 or 6 years are well known. A club that has now been bought by a billionaire and a fanbase that still have high expectations that there is investment beyond their means to achieve success.

The salary cap would have been a good leveller but sadly the PFA objected - but then Gordon Taylor was paid more than it cost to run a League Two club and when did turkeys vote for Christmas.

The debt owed in the Championship is eye watering. Who's next into Admin?

The Brooks Mileson story looks an interesting one that I was unfamiliar with. His time at Gretna was described as "an ego trip" by the St Johnstone chair when Gretna went out of business. I guess ego is always going to play a part with any substantial investment football club.

I do hope that regardless of the outcome of this trial that the Fleetwood club does not go the same way as what happened with both Darlington (or was it Hartlepool) where the Magnet founder invested and Rushden where Max whathisname funded the team.
Don’t think you will ever stop these vanity projects but it is such a shame those long term real fans of clubs when these things happen.
Having said all that I wouldn’t say no to resigning Callum Camps next season.

The golden rule is obviously to beware of sugar daddies.
The bloke who allegedly bankrolled Huddersfield from League One to the Premier League simply didn't do that.
He later sold the club for £5million and then revealed that the £30million that he'd put into the club was merely a series of loans which he wanted back.
They're paying it back at £5million a year which is partially crippling them financially.
He knew they could afford it because of parachute payments.
