1. Southend at home may 1969…the day the club lost its virginity.

2. Coventry FA cup Jan 1971…first time we beat a top Division team in FACup, first time we got to third round for 16 years I think and that bas**rd Cantwell made it so much more enjoyable

3. Nothampton at home when we finally returned to the promised land. Couldnt be there but managed to catch the BBC world service coverage parked on Pearl Street (in Buffalo New York)

(3) Seeing the team walk out at Wembley for the 1st time in our history.

For me the Northampton game doesn’t make my top three, which is strange given we don’t do promotions on a regular basis! The feeling at the final whistle was more of relief, whilst obviously being happy at the same time. In terms of games I was at, my three are:

1) Muirhead penalty
2) Davies equaliser v Spurs
3) Joey T v Charlton

Mine are just days I loved:
1. The victory with ten men at Orient (Done getting an ovation from the home fans when substituted)
2. The 2-1 win at Southend when Camps got the winner (being a Southend boy that win was a very long time in the making)
3. The FA cup tie at Crystal Palace (never realised you could have such a good time while losing)

Like others have said there are so many to choose from, that’s why we go through the pain and mediocre, for these special moments.

3) Beating Rotherham 5-3 in the cup in 95 as I was mascot.

2) Joey T Goal v Charlton

1) Ben Muirhead penalty

Notable mentions
Evils freekick against Preston away in the cup
Liverpool away we got hammered but I was young and to me the atmosphere was incredible.
Mathesons goal at Old Trafford.
Newport away in pink pants regardless of the outcome there was a brilliant party atmosphere.

I could keep going....

Gary Jones's equaliser against Brighton away at The Withdean (because it was at the first game I attended)

Davies equaliser against Spurs.

The collective feeling of relief then jubilation when the news game in that the final whistle had FINALLY! been blown at the Northampton v Oldham game and our survival was confirmed.

Beating Burnley with 9 men at Turd Moor was a very close 4th.

1. Preston 2 Dale 4 1987. They were 2nd we were 2nd bottom, stuffing them on the plastic pitch, Robbie Wakenshaw free kick and doing the conga in the away end.

2. Orient 1 Dale 4 2005 well pi$$ed in the waggon(possibly coach) & horses pub after game, getting grief from home fans till pointed out quite forcefully that I had seen us lose 8-0, 5-0, 3-0 and 3-0 on my previous visits, then being bought pints by their fans.

3. Getna 0 Dale 0 1991 How our keeper didn't get sent off? Not leaving Gretna's clubhouse till it shut not being even to remember me own name

Mention also for the total football v Southend, was teaching at Southend college at the time. Another BBM false dawn.
Play off victory v Darlo, JT's winner v Charlton, Luke's goal v United and, Steve Davies v Spurs but can't count them as wasn't there.

100 years some great memories. Get the shares secured and here's to the next 100.

Thinking about moments rather than games, but in no particular order:

Dennis Butler's winner against Coventry, 1971
(Great he'll be there tonight, i'm going in the Sandy for the occasion)

Steve Davies last gasp equaliser against Spurs, 2018

Gary Jones sealing the win at Southampton, 2010

So many to choose from:

1. The Ben Muirhead penalty to take us to Wembley
2. The confirmation of the Oldham vs Northampton result where we had beaten Charlton. Nine minutes that felt like forever.
3. Stockport 2 - Rochdale 7

1) Joey T's goal v Charlton - what a story - Roy of the Rovers stuff!

2) TK's celebration

3) Daggers' hat-trick when he came back from injury

Two special mentions;

Chris O'Grady every time he wore the Dale Shirt.

The look that Gary Jones gave Mathew Barnes-Homer when MBH provided yet more evidence that he wasn't a professional footballer.

I agree with Paddy's wonder goal at the Shay. It's in my top 3 as well. He remains my favourite ever Dale player.

also

Evil's blockbuster at Deepdale in the cup.

and a strange one...

A 4-4 draw away at Hereford in a midweek game when I was held up on the motorway and missed the start. Just a classic lower league game between 2 teams going hell for leather at each other. Every fan in the ground applauded the players at the end.

Interesting post this one because when I think of my best dale memories it’s not just a particular game. There have been amazing dale moments within a game over the decades but for me it’s the memories I have with dale fans. The absolute legends I travelled the country with. You know who you are, but we had some of the best times in Frank’s mini bus. Torquay, Shrewsbury, Swansea, the list is endless.

In addition to this I have to say my best dale memory is standing with my dad, uncle and grandad. Three generations of dale fans.

1. Spanking a penalty into the top corner in front of the Sandy when I was about 10 years old. One of my father's friends was drawn out on the Golden Gamble to take part in a half-time shootout to win a shirt and he very kindly asked me to go on. After that first penalty, I then weakly hit my second to the goalkeeper's left which he duly saved before blazing my third over the bar. But, I won as the Exeter fan (I think) scored none of his.

2. Winning away at Preston in the FA Cup - what a day!

3. There are so many late winners (4-3 v Cambridge on a Tuesday night always sticks in my mind) and joyous away days which could take this - but it has to be the overall day of beating Darlington to reach Wembley. After enjoying a good few beers in the Cem I somehow ended up in the ground at around 6pm as a gate had been left open. Had good fun wandering around the ground with my father, treading the empty pitch and soaking up everything that had happened a few hours earlier. And then the gate shut! Cue some desperate scrambling over the fence and into the Dale Bar where the landlord and a few others were chuckling away having watched us on CCTV.
