patrick vieira to palace on 16:44 - Jun 30 with 874 views | Dr_Parnassus | Everyone is open to an approach, but the initial contact will pretty much always come from the club. It’s not the same thing, one is an application the other is an approach, it’s far more likely he was approached than he applied. We all know that in reality despite the picture that oddly is trying to be painted. He has no say in if the clubs will reach a deal, that’s up to them to sort out. I would imagine it’s more a case of Fulham expecting we would budge from the asking price/clause and underestimating the fact that we won’t. If they knew that beforehand then they more than likely would never have made the initial approach.

patrick vieira to palace on 16:47 - Jun 30 with 869 views | Fireboy2 | I'm going to add to this debate, as Lisa has stated the silence is deafening which means to me the club are hoping he will get picked up but now it looks like our bluff has been called, imo coopers position is untenable, im hoping the club and cooper come to an agreement, if he stays then he will have lost what little bit of credibility he has left, the majority of the fans don't want him and I simply cannot see the players wanting to play for him.
patrick vieira to palace on 16:49 - Jun 30 with 852 views | Dr_Parnassus | Did we put out a statement saying we wanted Martinez and Rodgers to stay then? Genuine question. I can’t remember one for either, but maybe my memory is failing me.

patrick vieira to palace on 16:50 - Jun 30 with 854 views | guthrieintherain | His silence says it all.

patrick vieira to palace on 16:51 - Jun 30 with 850 views | Fireboy2 | Nor can I but with the speculation re both fulham and palace interviews surely the club would release something.
patrick vieira to palace on 16:54 - Jun 30 with 829 views | Dr_Parnassus | The Rodgers and Martinez speculation was going on for longer than this, the Rodgers one in particular seemed to take an age. But I am the same as you; can’t remember the club releasing anything about wanting either to stay, even thought it’s pretty obvious to anyone that they did. So using those situations as a yard stick, this isn’t too dissimilar.

patrick vieira to palace on 17:01 - Jun 30 with 829 views | guthrieintherain | The main difference is we did want Martinez and Rogers to stay. Cooper has already out stayed his welcome the only thing keeping him here is his buy out clause. 3.5 million with 1 year left on his contract is daft. [Post edited 30 Jun 2021 17:02]

patrick vieira to palace on 17:02 - Jun 30 with 823 views | ItchySphincter | What can he say though? He can hardly say he wants out and we’ve heard all the hollow words a about loving the cloob or having to be dragged out before, it means nothing. I would have thought we’d outgrown all that by now. Any manager or player will move on when the receive what they deem to be a better offer. Cooper is in a slightly unique position having gained a degree of success where a fair proportion of the fanbase is less than keen on his on field performance yet his point tally is gaining the attention of other clubs. It does appear that he’s run out of road here, not that he deserves the sack, but that it looks like he’s overachieved and surpassed his potential.

patrick vieira to palace on 17:05 - Jun 30 with 814 views | 34dfgdf54 | Correct, as we did when Potter asked to speak to Brighton. The club have fully expected Potter to get the Palace or Brighton gig. I’m not criticising Cooper for a lack of commitment so to speak, it’s a two way street, he wants to go, we want him to go, which is why Fulham hold all the cards at the moment. Here’s hoping Wilder doesn’t fancy working for who Fulham fans say is a bit of a barmy DOF in Khan, which is definitely possible.
patrick vieira to palace on 17:05 - Jun 30 with 807 views | Dr_Parnassus | But that’s just a guess isn’t it, the fact we aren’t budging from a massively high clause (almost double Martinez’) suggests that isn’t the case. I understand you may want him to leave, but your views aren’t necessarily echoed by the club. I agree 3.5m is a silly price, but it’s designed that way for a reason. They either keep the manager they want or they get a silly amount of money.

patrick vieira to palace on 18:05 - Jun 30 with 777 views | londonlisa2001 | Not the case in most occasions. Usually the agent will let it be known that the manager is open to an approach or not as the case may be. It’s also always the case that a club with a managerial vacancy will receive a genuinely surprising amount of applications. Clubs at the very top tend to work differently where they will know who they want. Where it’s not clear cut (as in these cases, as can be seen from the time it’s taking) it’s usually a case of having a look at who’s expressed interest and going from there. It’s just as likely to be us thinking if they have a first choice they’ll pay up without realising that they may well just go elsewhere and we’ll be left to pick up the pieces.
patrick vieira to palace on 18:11 - Jun 30 with 761 views | monmouth | Martinez broke my heart, Rodgers kicked me in the nuts. If Cooper goes he will unbreak my heart and unkick my nuts, Wasn't that a song? "Unkick my nuts..."

patrick vieira to palace on 18:29 - Jun 30 with 731 views | jack247 | I can’t remember that far back, but there were certainly multiple publicised meetings with Potter to give assurances regarding the club’s ambition. It may have been that he’d have gone whatever he was offered, but they did try to convince him to stay.
patrick vieira to palace on 18:46 - Jun 30 with 705 views | 34dfgdf54 | Birch made a statement saying they had done everything in their power for Potter and his staff to stay, new contracts were also offered if I remember correctly. All this while having a £3m compensation package dangled in front of us. Potter had said the project at Brighton was too hard to turn down and we begrudgingly had to let him go.
patrick vieira to palace on 18:50 - Jun 30 with 704 views | pencoedjack | So basically Vieira hasn’t been confirmed as Palace manager (seems a few managers turn it down after terms are agreed) & Cooper is still here?
patrick vieira to palace on 18:52 - Jun 30 with 701 views | 34dfgdf54 | was thinking that earlier, PV move to palace may not be as cut and dried as people think.
patrick vieira to palace on 20:07 - Jun 30 with 623 views | AndyCole | . But it's not 'a fair proportion' though is it. Far from it. The forums are skewed massively to the negative, laden with grumpy 'ol men and women who 'come on here for a moan' (a direct quote). Which is fair enough, albeit tediously predictable and sad. The wider population of fans (I want to say 'proper' but out of respect to one or two on here will desist) overwhelmingly want him to stay. The players want him to stay. The wider backroom staff want him to stay, in sunny Swansea. You're right he has overachieved. And I'm confident he will continue to do so, with the right players. I believe the board are confident too and will back him with what he needs, within reason. Most Championship clubs would jump at the chance of being us. (ps - good to have a more rounded Itchy back here) .

patrick vieira to palace on 22:36 - Jun 30 with 512 views | Dr_Parnassus | We have no idea what meetings the club have had with Cooper, I would imagine they are having several at the moment. Not everything gets played through the media. As I say, I don’t remember any publicised pleas to stay for either Martinez or Rodgers who are regarded as two of our best modern day managers. I think people may just be seeing what they want to at times here.
