What do we know about Reading FC ? Monty Don isn’t a Reading supporter, for those that don’t know Monty, ( most people who use that moniker are very cowardly) he is a gardener, but not really because he only grows weeds and when nobody is looking he glues flowers on them. Then he says ‘ ohhhh look what I’ve done, I’m a gardener’ He mainly scoops up loads of compost, which is basically shit, and puts it in different places, in fact he does this so often you would have thought he was a Cardiff fan, he can’t be though because his hair is too curly and he is too tall.
Monty Don with his dog, who is possibly dead, but not in this picture.
Ayrton Senna was born in Reading, he lived there until he won some racing competitions in a car. Senna was born in a house in Chelsea Close, Reading and only sold it when he was about eleven years old to buy a new car. In those days he was known as Brian or Knobhead ( to his mum) Proof Ayrton Senna is from Reading.
Reading is the only village in the Englands to be called a town, that’s quite a feat. Also just outside Reading is Broadmoor hospital where the more bloody frightening folk in the country are sent when they scare the shit out of people or kill them, whichever comes first. Not everyone who is sent to Broadmoor is dangerous, although that’s a qualification for most people to get in to the building. A little known fact is the ‘Silent Twins’ from West Wales were sent there after they set fire to a lot of the town of Haverfordwest. Their names were June and Jennifer Gibbons. One is now dead and the other lives in Haverfordwest where the sale of fire extinguishers shot up on her return home.
In the last thirteen games played between Swansea City and Reading the Swans haven’t lost any games, winning eight and drawing five. Swansea have scored twenty four goals in those games winning two of them 4-1 away.
Swansea City: Freddie Woodman; Ben Cabango, Ryan Bennett, Marc Guehi; Connor Roberts, Korey Smith, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Jake Bidwell; Andre Ayew, Jamal Lowe.
Substitutes: Steven Benda, Ryan Manning, Viktor Gyokeres, Wayne Routledge, Yan Dhanda, Joel Latibeaudiere, Oli Cooper, Jordon Garrick, Kasey Palmer.
Reading: Rafael Cabral, Tomas Esteves, Michael Morrison (captain), Tom McIntyre, Michael Olise, Andy Rinomhota, Sam Baldock, Ovie Ejaria, Josh Laurent, Tom Holmes, Alfa Semedo.
Substitutes: Luke Southwood, Omar Richards, John Swift, Sone Aluko, Nahum Melvin-Lambert, Tennai Watson, Ryan East, Jeriel Dorsett.
I thought it was an excellent performance that didn’t get the three points it warranted. Palmer didn’t play well tonight - would have been better to use Dhanda while we were on top as he may have carved an opening or scored himself.

We could have won that game and the keeper did pull off some good saves, but none that you wouldn’t expect him to make, I think Guehi’s was the best chance.
I think the team selection in the first place was the issue, we have played Smith, Grimes and Fulton together before but usually in away games, to do it in a home game against a Reading side that has been in reasonable but not blistering form recently, has conceded a fair number of goals, and that was missing a few likely starters, was overly cautious IMO and it showed, we played well in terms of fluency but could have done with a creative spark, which the likes of Dhanda would have been more likely to provide. I don’t think Cooper can complain too much about the result really.
In terms of the Palmer comments, yes, he wasn’t great, but he hasn’t had a lot of game time recently, so as with most players, he is probably the type that you see the best of when he is playing regularly, as he definitely didn’t look sharp last night. Yes there is a chicken and egg element to that though as someone who isn’t playing well isn’t likely to get game time etc, Gyorkeres is in the same boat at the moment.

I think to be fair we created tons , our finishing spark was missing not the creative one. We dominated a fellow top 6 contender almost completely (with 9 men behind the ball a lot of the time) and created chance after chance. If one of those had gone in they would have to have come out to try and get the point and we would have ruthlessly finished them off.
Let’s take the positives from a great effort all round and move on to Watford.

Going to be completely honest, I think our performance is being exaggerated in a big way. That was a Reading side without three quarters of their goals in the team, plus other starters. They didn’t come to play, they came to survive and made it easy for us on the ball.
If you take the first 7 games out, they have the leakiest defence in the football league and we just didn’t have the creativity or finishing to put to sword. Make no bones about it, Norwich, Brentford, Bournemouth and others vying for play off spots would of won that today.
I don’t rate Palmer or Vik, I had doubts from the start but the lack of imagination and rotation from Cooper has left us short big time in the final third, you can’t expect players to be having 10 minutes every other week and expect them to perform.
Yan, Palmer, Vik, Cullen, Garrick and Manning should of all had considerably more game time than they have done.
Not enough goals and no plan b. Said on twitter it’s a crazy comment due to where we are in the league, but something doesn’t sit well with me under this manager, it’s a god awful league and we have had luck with our players staying fit as of now, false position imo

I can’t honestly say that we created a clear cut chance, apart from Guehi’s, maybe Ayew’s header but apart from that, not really, and can’t help feeling that Dhanda starting, or failing that Cooper changing it far earlier than he did, say half time, would have potentially enabled us to create (even more, if the view is that we did create a lot) more chances.
I think, ultimately, Cooper paid Reading too much respect.
However, what’s done is done, let’s move on, but we could well see more of the same against Watford, maybe more justifiably, as Watford are a better team than Reading probably, but if we want to continue challenging at the very top then there will be more pressure on us to win that game now, the kind of which that would have been alleviated to a degree by winning last night, in what was probably the easier of the two games.

Last night felt like a defeat ;the look on Cooper's face and that of the players told as much.
We screwed up a great chance to consolidate.
The players certainly didnt lack for effort but why AGAIN just give VG 5 minutes. This is not fair and poor player management.
You can be as positive as you like but we can do better and this league really is terrible standard.
Finally,I got rather upset when then the commentators reminded us we had spent 2m and received 50 Million. Now,how big was that black hole and how did it get so big.
This is THE great question we should be asking not how rich jenkins became after flogging the club to the owners we are lumbered with.
Exactly. If they’d have had their full team out and not been so defensive we may have scored 2 or 3 with all the extra space afforded us.
And yet we did create good chances. I thought it was a great performance personally but that’s only my opinion. They could have complained if they lost 2 or 3 nil and will be ecstatic with a point.

We dragged them out of position a lot yes. Not an easy feat against such a defensive mindset. I think it’s best left to me thinking we played particularly well and others who don’t thinking just that.

All the players gave their all and cannot be faulted ,however, we are or should be ambitious to get to the Prem and last night we again failed to kill off a team. It is disappointing,no matter how one portrays it.
Bennett going off is also a worry as we lack height -as we have done -for many seasons. I dont understand why we collect small players.
I thought we played very well and strangely I felt better about this 0-0 draw than I did after the last home game when we won 2-0! That’s probably because we actually passed the ball last night and didn’t just hoof it up the pitch. The improved, but not perfect, quality of the playing surface was the difference I’d say. Don’t get me wrong, I was gutted we didn’t win - we deserved to - but we looked like a top of the table side at times last night, even if we couldn’t score and that was my consolation. We were in good company - Liverpool dominated their game and also couldn’t score! I was sorry not to see Dhanda included- I have a lot of regard for Yan. And I was impressed by young Latibaudiere - quite something to have a back line all 20 years old. He looks classy. Onward and upward.

Dhanda is the type of player who might have unlocked the door but he’s blowing hot and cold isn’t he. He’s got the ability but needs to more consistent. And Fulton did very well in a more advanced role. Very well, surprisingly as I don’t or didn’t see him as a creative player.
Of course Reading had two of three out. But they’ve spent a lot of money with a big squad and will be pushing for a top six place all season. I really enjoyed that last night ðŸ‘

Yes, hes starting to play well, he was imo our best player last night, he plays better in an advanced role supporting the wing backs and the two forwards.

His quick interchanges with Smith , grimes and the wing backs are making us look a good attacking side all of a sudden. And whilst he’s no Tommy Smith he definitely can mix it if needs be.
