I'm not sure what to make of this.
Salford City isn't a football in the true sense of the word. Traditionally, locals watch their great rugby league team or support Manchester United. I can't help feeling as though rich mens' vanity clubs like this, and Fleetwood, take a place in the football pyramid by displacing real football towns and people.
Wellens was a good player for Blackpool, had a good playing career, and is making more than a good fist of things as a manager. However, his relationship with Blackpool fans has soured. Even earlier this year, with the vacant manager's position at Blackpool, Wellens used us and the club by feigning interest in the BFC job in order to secure himself a new contract at Swindon. It must have cost Salford a quid or two to buy out this new contract.
Perhaps Salford and Wellens were made for each other. A match made in heaven. | |
