He's nowhere near fully grown yet to be fair

Possession with progression.

Whilst by his own admission hes always been small I can't see a dramatic increase in his height, not knocking the lad for his age hes very good, I just dont get blown away when I watch him

I'll decide whether I'm outraged by the comments, not you.

Accusing a 17 year old professional footballer of 'throwing' a football match is a pretty abysmal and disgusting thing to allege. You may not agree. Tough.

Akinfenwa was the first to console Luke, had a good talk to him. The poor lad was gutted.

Truly terrible pitch....can we blame Hornets...have they been playing a few pre season games there?

He always comes across as a decent chap Akinfenwa, fair play to him for that, it's a steep old learning curve playing as a pro at such a young age especially after such recent headlines for the lad, it will hurt.

49th apologies if you are blind or partly sighted, but why did you watch the game with your eyes closed today?
That was a very frustrating watch today. The selected team had a very solid look to it and a lack of spark with both Rathbone and Camps missing. Think we can play without one of them but not both. It is a worry when MJ is your main man carrying the ball forward. Guess we needed a big game from Dooley and didn’t really get it.
Both the first two goals where goal were flukes, although Hendo made his own luck. I think we didn’t go at them enough and make use of the headers Andrew won on virtually every airial dual. No one was gambling by running if behind them. They had a lot of success down our left side which surprised he a little with RND and Keohane patrolling that side. Think the former may not be match fit as he didnt bomb on as much as I have seen him do, but still got to the bye line when played in. The Ryan substitution was interest one as Fabio didn’t play as advanced as I expected, and Done seemed at more natural fit for that position.
When Henderson dropped deeper he was the on player who looked like he might provide the spark we needed in the final third. He is such a good footballer, as well as a prolific scorer.
Viewing the penalty from so far away I thought why did Luke not let the player take the ball and and get of a shot Lynch had a chance of saving. Looking at the reply the decision was even worse as there were other defenders who could have closed before a shot / cross came in.
I saw several of the 1-0, see it out games at the back end of last season. But this was more reminiscent of Dale throwing points away in the bad old days when we could contrive ways to loose points.
A few comments on performances:
Jimmy Ryan is worth his spot but does misplace numerous passes
Calvin did well against their back line, and covered the flanks well when we were stretched wide and when the ball was at his feet he linked it up well
MJW put in a decent shift and tried to exploit the spaces in front of him, which I hadn’t expected from comments about him I had seen on here
We played out from the back way to often and it prevented us getting up the field with speed. Although on the occasions it worked well it did create space in the midfield for us to exploit.
We should have drawn that. Frustrated.

Well, BBM has explained why Camps, Bobby S and Wilbrahimovic were missing but no mention of Morley or Rathbonio.
Morley has been out for so long that his injury must be really serious, so what is it ? Saw him park up at the Acrrington game and walk to the game and he looked ok. That was nearly 3 weeks ago.
Is summat going on ?

I think there's a difference between 'looking ok' to drive a car and 'being ok' to play 90 minutes of football!

He picked up an injury the day before the Burton game, while Rathbone was injured in between the first Newcastle and Bolton games. Both these situations have been explained by the manager in subsequent interviews.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

I saw someone mentioned a muscle tear on Facebook? Not sure where they got that from though as BBM has said nowt for weeks about Morley. Quite strange.

He can't have done? We've already been told by numerous people who weren't at the game that he was crap.

Match Thread - Wycombe Away on 09:10 - Jan 19 with 2483 views1907

Agreed. It’s just his finishing that let him down. Should have scored at least 1 out of his chances.

Match Thread - Wycombe Away on 09:57 - Jan 19 with 2398 viewsboromat

Do feel a bit for Calvin he's not a prolific goalscorer and for him to score more goals he needs to be match sharp, he doesn't get a good run of games in the team to build up this sharpness.

I can imagine him being a 1 in 5 if he was playing every game, but maybe I'm being a bit optimistic.

It’s a bit like a chef expertly deboning and descaling a particularly boney and scaley piece of fish, seasoning it to perfection, applying just the right balance of herbs and placing it into the cupboard next to the oven.

Optimism is just what is required here. As Alan Partridge once said, the Titanic had hours of uneventful and perfectly pleasurable sailing before it hit the iceberg. Everyone always focuses on the sinking bit don’t they? Not the pre-impact upright bit.

Calvin is frustrating he does so much right but as a forward hes judged by goals which are sadly lacking

In the case of yesterday, thought he did a great job dealing with Wycombe's aerial threat. But I suppose ultimately he's there to score goals.

Calvin Andrew had a good game considering the guy has not played many full games. He blocked Akinfenwa’s chance and had a few chances to score. Given more game time he will score and that will get his confidence back. Feel sorry for Luke, I hope it doesn’t damage his confidence too much.

Match Thread - Wycombe Away on 14:42 - Jan 19 with 1954 viewsAtThePeake

Andrew has now played 48 games without scoring. 48. He's a centre-forward.

Ok, but how many of the 48 were 15 minute substitute appearances spent shoring up our defence?
2

Match Thread - Wycombe Away on 15:33 - Jan 19 with 1845 views49thseason

Therein lies the problem, we have a supposed centre forward who has a shocking scoring record and who we occasionally ask to shore up the defence. If we had spent his wage on another defender, maybe we would now have a forward who could score occasionally and a proper defender to help the defence.
How Calvin is now on his 3rd contract is a mystery to me. I dont think he has ever contributed more than 6 goals in any of the last 6 seasons... 220+ appearances and 28 goals in all competitions, 6 in all competitions since may 2017. I doubt there is another club in the EFL that would have continued to employ him after his first contract ended.

I think there were rumours that a League 2 club wanted him on loan last season but his wages were a stumbling block, so I'm sure he would've continued to find employment in the EFL at the end of his first contract had we released him. His goalscoring record has always been appalling yet he's managed to eke out a 16 year ongoing career, he'd have been bombed out long ago if he was simply 'shite'. He surely must offer summat intangible that most are unable to see, as his services have constantly been in demand by people who know far more about football than you or I.
