365 safe seats 17:52 - Nov 25 with 4520 viewsHighjack

That’s 25.1 million people. Over half of all the seats in Parliament already decided weeks before the ballot boxes open. 225 constituencies not changed hands in sixty nine years. Over 100 not changed over the last century.

How long are we going to continue with this charade of “every vote matters”?

More that 14 million people failed to vote in the last general election, with 13 million doing likewise in the referendum vote... incredible figures.

Maybe many of those would vote if their vote mattered. Highjack and I don’t agree on much but he’s spot on here. Our electoral system is a shambles and an affront to democracy.

Can't we have a vote to alter it?

We tried that in 2011. Most people said no. Not that the alternative that was offered was more than only a slight improvement mind.

Fine people if they don't vote. Give the revenue to whichever party wins.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it’ll be more this time there seems to be a lot of disillusioned people out there.
The best political statement I’ve seen in many years was actually posted on here by my learned friend ECB when he said last week.

“’ll be voting Labour as the party with the best chance of beating the Tories in this constituency. I’ll do so with little enthusiasm and all things being equal I’d vote for the Libdems but given the shittiness of our electoral system, Labour it will be.“

There will be a lot of tactical voting in this election. May not be enough but I think we’ll see it in numbers never seen before.

I hope you’re right. I really don’t like Corbyn but he’s not Johnson.

There’s no chance of Corbyn winning a majority. The best hope is enough tactical voting to deny Johnson one.

So he’s saying that although a supporter of a party of global free trade he hopes to see the defeat of a party of global free trade by voting for one that isn’t?

At least you have that option. There’s been elections in my lifetime where labour have got 75% of the vote and a majority even Alan B’stard would be pleased with, and he killed his opponents.

I'm in the same constituency as you, but I'll be f*cked if I'm voting Labour.

It's just a massive shame that other people (most of them) don't do the same.

I'll vote but I no longer have any faith in our electoral system or politicians
Does that matter?
Not an iota. Not a jot.

As long as they're financial supporters are happy...

I’d be happy enough in a safe Labour seat this time round. You get to vote for someone else safe in the knowledge that you’re not helping the Tories.
