Double header away matches 09:26 - Nov 3 with 2920 viewsmodelboydave

Soton recent double header away at city got me thinking about how many time’s we have played consecutive away games against the same team....

And I didn’t get very far - Lincoln springs to mind - plus several home matches over the years. But away games ??

Lincoln away? When?

We played them at home on consecutive Saturdays in December 1989, but there was an LDV Trophy game v Tranmere on the Tuesday.

We played Lincoln away twice in September 1995, but there were games at Fulham and Doncaster in between.

The most recent for away games is Doncaster. Away last game of 2017, then again the following Saturday in the FA Cup, although we played Blackpool at home in between.

Without a game in between (friendlies don’t count), it’s Peterborough. Last game of 06/07, first match of 07/08.

The most recent at home is bury in October 2007; a league match on the Saturday followed by a JPT game on the Tuesday.

You need to read your old programmes more closely....

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Crewe maybe? Seem to remember battering them twice early season when Hill first put Done and Hendo upfront. The games were definitely close together don't know about consecutive.

Poll: What are we more excited for?

That’s a good call. Doncaster in 2017/18 is the most recent, as posted above, but Crewe is another one.

Ref Lincoln away, I’m getting mixed up with the cup March of 1989.

Ref the 95 Lincoln away , was one a 4-3 defeat in the Auto windscreen ? I have a memory of a Jason Peake long range effort.

How about bury end of 93 94 and then first away match of 94-95?

Yes, bury is a good one.

I don't understand what you mean about Lincoln; we weren't in any cups in March 1989.

Anyway, this is the full list (of consecutive away games against the same opposition), as far as I can make out.

Wigan Borough - last away game of 22/23; first away game of 23/24
Bradford PA - last away game of 64/65; first away game of 65/66
Blackburn - 16/8/72 in the League Cup; 19/8/72 in the league
Barnsley - last away game of 76/77; first away game of 77/78
Burnley - 27/8/88 in the league; 6/9/88 in the Littlewoods Cup
Scunthorpe - 10/11/90 in the league; 20/11/90 in the FA Cup (replay)
Bury - last away game of 93/94; first away game of 94/95
Peterborough - last away game of 06/07; first away game of 07/08
Crewe - 19/8/14 in the league; 2/9/14 in the JPT
Doncaster - 29/12/17 in the league; 6/1/18 in the FA Cup

As an addendum, we played Workington three times in a week in November 1975; FA Cup, FA Cup replay & Division Four

Thanks TVOS.

Lincoln I was thinking consecutive home matches in December 1989, one in the F.A cup , one in the league.

Consecutive hone matches would be the next question!

Gillingham 2009
Lincoln 1989

Not Lincoln; read my initial post.

Gillingham is the most recent, with bury in October 2007 before that.
