VAR is a blight on our game 20:47 - Oct 20 with 20085 viewsBlackCrowe

Watford robbed yesterday and man yoo's goal should not have stood today. So something that was designed to eradicate controversy is actually creating it.

Seemlingly a huge proportion of goals being referred to VAR. Referees don't have to referee any more. Fans can't properly celebrate in the moment of joy when the ball hits the net because the immediate reaction is to see if it gets referred to VAR. It's also an irritating name.

i truly hate it.

If there is one referee that I would like to take issue with, this is the one!

I have no problem with the penalty he awarded, but what about the minimum of two we should have been given?

Why give offside against Stainrod laying on the ground injured when Micklewhite "equalisedf"?

Why obstuct Waddock to allow Hoddle a free shot for the Tottenham goal in the first game?

Why be allowed to referee the FA Cup final that included the club he trained with?

Am I still bitter? You bet I am!

There has been an absolute classic of the genre tonight against Spurs

Lucas Moura is fouled and as he hits the ground, the Sheff U defender hits it against his arm and it ricochets to Kane who goes on the score. Since VAR are checking it and technically it has been decided that a ball cannot hit an arm in the build up, its chalked off.

Absolute farce. Dont blame the officials it is the idiots who decided an accidental handball by an attacker is penalized (bet they did not foresee this scenario) but no penalty if a defender accidental handles the ball.

I suppose any defender from now on should just deliberately kick the ball at a forward's arm. If they get possession back, they are fine, but if the other team goes on to score, it will be disallowed.

What makes it worse is that Moura was fouled so he had no control in hitting the deck even before the ball was kicked against him.

Yes this one was down to the awful new change to the handball law NOT VAR as Gabby Logan and Jermaine Jenas said it was!

The tweak they have made to the law for 20/21 wouldn't have made any difference either.

Few more high profile incidents similar to this and there will be (yet) another tweak for 21/22 I reckon!

The rule only came in due to VAR, would have been unworkable without it.

Man City had one disallowed last night for an equally ridiculous call.

Apparently the handball law is staying as it is for next season, so more of this nonsense to come.

VAR is a despicable, evil, reprehensible, nasty piece of work.

It should be taken out around the alley and given a good kicking. Then nick it’s keys and chuck them down down the drain so it can’t get indoors without having to wake the Mrs up, who’ll be so pissed off at his outrageous confabulations that she'll divorce him, take the Kids and all his money and the house. Leaving him destitute and living in the back alleys where he can get another good kicking for being such a disgusting, obtuse, puss ridden git.

Only then will law and order be restored to wild west.

Not quite - instead of 'leads to a goalscoring opportunity' it has changed to 'leads directly to a goalscoring opportunity' - that'll sort it out!

Can't agree Dave. Its actually made it far easier at grassroots - you don't have to try and decide if handball by an attacker is deliberate or not or worse, pretend that it was if they score accidently with hand/arm - that last part is what the law was designed to do but they over complicated it by adding the 'goalscoring opportunity' bits.

Its still a mess and unfair with or without VAR.

VAR should only be used for what it was intended for and that is if the ball crosses the goal line, nothing more nothing less.
they are trying to be too clever with it and its not working, causing all sorts of unessessary problems.

there are 25 players on and along side that pitch, they all make mistakes, including the ref and linesmen.

ban the thing.

If the defender basically spun away to avoid going through BF from the back and Fernandes himself fell on top of him how is that a penalty.I thought VAR was introduced to clear up any confusion or Referee errors then after tonight its pathetic. The Ref blew it literally which gave the video ref his chance to right the wrong but as usual they are afraid to show up their buddies and thats the major flaw IMO.
Look at the Spurs game and listen to Jose he says it clearly the refs are sticking together and the game is suffering

Penalty all day long. He got fouled inside the box, regardless where the ball was.

If you`re a Labour supporter, it`s on page 32 paragraph 5 of the play the man, not the ball "Handy hints" booklet.

'You didn't know that was wrong, but now you do. If you do it again, I'll know you are doing it on purpose.'

Should have been a free kick the other way and at least a yellow for dangerous play.

The way the Premier League have stuck their noses in the air and said we can do VAR better than anyone else and made a complete mess of it has been quite funny really

The way the ball looped in it was blatantly obvious the ball came off his shoulder.
