Football related violence on 22:36 - Jul 22 with 2390 views | ericofarabia | Birmingham City, twice in fact. Both times relegation battles mid 70's and 83.. Absolute carnage on Hill Lane down to the station. I was travelling up to Liverpool after the latter one. I had come down to collect Mrs EoA's weddiing ring which we'd bought in Picketts & Pursers. End of season and I had a Pringle Jumper with Club Crest on it and no coat or jacket. The train was full of Brummies some with bloodied noses, ripped clothes, and some with blood on their knuckles! I sat next to an old granny, and pretended to be asleep with my arm srategically covering the SFC badge all way till we were past Brum!! One of the few times The Milton got taken was by Chelsea late 60's with them winning 5-3 in revenge for our 6-2 win at Stamford Bridge. Very scary stuff for a 10 yr to watch!!
Football related violence on 22:58 - Jul 22 with 2370 views | this_charming_man | C1984 when Chelsea came to town. They had recently returned to top flight and having warmed up that season with battles against West Ham, Spurs and man united they believed they could come to Southampton and challenge the might of the DEF. they brought a huge firm down, pre match there were several scuffles around town as they broke up into smaller groups but it was after the game when things started to get on top. They came down hill lane on mass only to be out flanked by the DEF, once they realised they were out of their depth the few Chelsea that stood were battered whist the rest were running for their lives. Dozens of them tried breaking into Springfield school to escape the snarling mob of saints fans desperate to teach them a lesson for temerity or thinking they were a match for us. Meanwhile through the city Shop window and doors were smashed in as they tried to find shelter anywhere they could to hide from the fearsome might of Europe’s most violent hooligan gang. Eventually with the Chelsea fans begging for safety the police got a grip wrapped them up in an escort and put them on the train back to London much to the headhunters relief. there and then made the police decision that Chelsea fans wouldn’t be allowed to Southampton the next season for their own safety. A wise decision by the police but in truth Chelsea knew they would never recover from beating they took that day, shortly after ”hicky” his reputation in tatters and post traumatic stress from the battle of Springfield school decided to leave the country for the Far East where he opened a bar. His close fiends say he still has nightmares. It’s also rumoured Andy frains nickname “nightmare” comes from that day as for years after he would wake in a cold sweat as he dreamt the door he was trying to kick in at Springfield school never smashing whilst the saints mob circled. Football related violence on 23:04 - Jul 22 with 2355 views | Chesham_Saint | I remember playing Brighton at the Dell in I think the late 70s. They were allocated the whole of the Archers and basically they were attacked throughout the game from the east and west stands by mobs of youths. I seem to recall the Old Bill carting out quite a few. Worse though was Man U the year after we beat them in the cup. There were loads of the DNBs everywhere. Also Millwall at home around the same era when quite a few skates turned up as well...

Football related violence on 12:16 - Jul 23 with 2175 views | this_charming_man | The time when a minbus of saints marched down county road unchallenged, into the main pub, out numbers 8 to 1 we smashed them to pieces, smashed up the pub and were back in the painted Wagon for last orders?

Football related violence on 13:25 - Jul 23 with 2103 views | MytchettSaint | Bit random as it’s not the worst but in terms of thinking someone had seriously come a cropper was Leicester at home circa 2002. They left the game early and went in the KA and kicked off once people started drifting in after the game, one of theirs was in a bad way after being caught and cut on the throat by something. I believe it was a bar stool I later found out. I remember the fella being laid out on the pavement as they treated him whilst a policewoman stood inside the side door with a police dog trying to bite anything near it. Got held in there for a while until they took everybody’s pictures and details. I watched all this in an observational capacity obviously. Anyone else remember that day? Football related violence on 16:03 - Jul 23 with 2000 views | this_charming_man | Yep it was back end of our first season at SMS. About 15 leicester went into the KA as you say before the game ended. A group of similar sized saints went it and the invenitbale happened with the baby sqaud getting a pasting and the lad i question getting a bar stool smashed into his throat and chin. He was in quite a bad way. That season was very busy of the pitch at home with other incidents against chelsea, newcastle, villa, man city, charlton, liverpool, man united.

Football related violence on 16:16 - Jul 23 with 1983 views | kingolaf | Heard a few stories from Steve Jewett about the days when a handful of them would go into the other end and try and take the lot of them. F*cking nutters. I prefer a few beers before and after. Not stupid enough to risk my amazing chiselled good looks. Steve never had that choice!
Football related violence on 16:54 - Jul 23 with 1945 views | MytchettSaint | That Leicester chap wasn’t in a good way that day. Remember the others you mention as well. Think Newcastle was last game of the season up by Yates? I believe I was actually having a beer with you and one or two others that day around Bedfords area after the game when word started to get about there was something allegedly happening.. Man City was a funny one, Got down really late that day and poked my head in the parkside where it was full of them, I was at the bar before I realised, how I got out unscathed I’ll never know. That was the day those Reading lads were on a jolly up and there seemed to be some confusion as to who was who in the pub after the game I’m told.

Football related violence on 18:50 - Jul 23 with 1834 views | Cushty01 | villa at sms, think it was the last season before their relegation, I was with the family enjoying a quiet pint in the waterfront at the marina before the game, two coach loads of Villa turned up , it was all good natured until one of them totally coked up kicked off, all hell broke loose, he and a few others got seen off with one of them losing an ear in the midst of it.. his mate picked up the ear and went in the ambulance with him...always wondered whether they managed to sow it back on the hobby c##t..
Football related violence on 19:57 - Jul 23 with 1783 views | Occasional_Showers | Not that I witnessed the events beforehand but I remember seeing some Skates covered in blood looking thoroughly bedraggled on the footbridge on the evening of the league cup game. What was clear was that they had taken a pasting and were seeking the sanctuary of the stadium.

Football related violence on 20:00 - Jul 23 with 1780 views | franniesTache | That was the day they did the hundred meters from the joiners and poor little Eddie ended up limp wristed. Turns out that when you don't have a camera crew in tow that little family club give you a good hiding.
Football related violence on 20:01 - Jul 23 with 1779 views | Pubeface | Those Reading fans bottled me in the face! Just below the eye, eye was shut for 6 weeks. 8 onto 1 but even after being bottled I stood my ground. Got bit twice by a Police dog outside Yates 30 minutes before! I always remember playing Arsenal at the Dell evening kick off, was walking up to turnstiles in the East stand and around 15 of them all chucked their orange craft knives on the floor before being searched. It has always played on my mind

Football related violence on 20:09 - Jul 23 with 1762 views | this_charming_man | Yeah Newcastle was last day of the season. Man united was a funny one, it had kicked off in st Mary’s street, everyone got split up, 3 of us walked past the Parkside about 20 minutes later and suddenly a dozen or so saints appeared outside bouncing towards us, shouting “are you lot Man U”. it was only as they got nearer when a couple of them recognised us that they realised they were just about to steam into 3 saints.

Football related violence on 20:17 - Jul 23 with 1751 views | Happy_Jack | The football violence grapevine is a thing to behold. Numbers suddenly swell and the tales of derring-do reach truly heroic heights. A year or so after the battle in The Warren's with Millwall in 1979 the SAS stormed the Iranian Embassy. The number of SAS troops involved in the liberation of The Iranian Embassy was far more believable than the thousands who later claimed to be in The Warren's that afternoon.

Football related violence on 22:52 - Jul 23 with 1621 views | 1teeminants | I saw the whole thing . I was working for the bus company paying out wages to Southampton city bus employees and this was located in Pound tree road directly opposite the pub . It was carnage. Smashed windows, tables and chairs being thrown, fighting spilling outside. Went on for a while too .

Football related violence on 23:20 - Jul 23 with 1585 views | 1teeminants | Several. Some of the Worst violence I witnessed was at Norwich away on a Friday night . Several of us travelled up by 4 cars and drank around Great Yarmouth . It was Saints first game back in the top league after promotion. Our group was attacked walking past a pub ,they knew we were Saints. a few cuts and bruises on both sides, one of theres put in an ambulance. There was violence most weekends in the 70’s and 80’s .Sometimes you just got caught up in it.

Football related violence on 23:37 - Jul 23 with 1570 views | this_charming_man | Bit before my time but I seem to remember there being quite a big incident with oxford around the Spa tavern late 80s early 90s, well we’ll publicised at time. Also when Pompey got turned over at Covent garden was in the national news.
