I’ve heard Vienna is nice. I’m off to Palermo in September with mrs TCM but a friend of our has suggested 8 of us go away end of September for a child free break. They suggested Budapest. I’m off to krakow on Tuesday on BUSINESS for a couple of days. Meant to be very nice.

Go to Lisbon. It’s compact and easily walkable, beautiful architecture, good food and cheap, good quality air bnb accommodation and cheap, cheap flights and a short flight, and relatively off the tourist map compared to other Southern European cities. Porto is on my list for a visit at some point.

We’re talking about both Lisbon and Porto. Fancy them both.

As you know, I used to go to Budapest 1 week in every 6 for a few years. I can bore you with places when we catch up.

My to-do list includes Porto as my next short break away.

Be interested to hear your thoughts on Krakow, as thinking of going there later in the year.

Budapest has fantastic architecture and one of the most impressive cities in Europe.
Hiwever, i found the majority of people miserable and unfriendly.
As some others have said Lisbon is great, as is Kracow.

I went there on a stag do about 12 years ago. The locals were indeed unfriendly and the place was very grey with an air of misery about it.
Good strip club though with some cracking bits of fluff.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Warsaw is surprisingly very nice. Loads of history, bars, cheap beer and food. With the added bonus of little to no British tourists.

Would highly recommend it.

As few english tourists is always a welcome bonus. One of the things we loved about bologna was the lack of english there demanding LAGER and generally acting like coonts.

Krakow is great. Been there for a drinking weekend and also a long weekend with the missus. Lots of good restaurants, cheap beer, interesting bars and clubs, plus lots to see and do by day. Great Gothic architecture, fortress, cathedral, old town, boat trip etc. Went to Auschwitz - I found it really moving and interesting, but appreciate it isn't everyone's cup of tea. Reluctantly went to the Salt Mines and was pleasantly surprised.

As already stated on this thread, Warsaw is worth a look, as is Zakapane in the south, but you cannot fly there directly and may take a couple of hours to transfer.

You made it to Reykjavik yet ?

I really liked Riga but went there about 10 years ago.

Tallinn was really good too and if you want to tick another city/country, you can take the boat over to Helsinki.

I have a vets football tour in a small town to the east of Dortmund in July, which should be great, as been a few times before. Also have a twin city break in Czech Rep and Slovakia, but not booked the main hols yet.

Setting off for Krakow in an hour. Shame I’m not there next week Krakovia have a home game, would quite fancy that.

We’ve book Budapest for September, we are planning to do a holiday to Iceland next year staying in Reykavik. Also off to Palermo in September for the weekend,

I’ve just been offered a new job at my company which will involve a fair bit of European travel so will be spending Some time in Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, Stockholm, Oslo, Lisbon, Krakow, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Dublin moving forward, probably BUSINESS trips to each place every 3 months or so

Got back earlier today, lovely place, the old town is beautiful and the main square stunning. It’s also very cheap, went to a nice steak restaurant last night, had a tomahawk with chips and spinach cost about £18. 10 of us went to dinner, starts, steak mains, fair bit of wine and beers bill came to just under £500. All in all highly recommend it, will go back for a long weekend and so auchwitz.

That's expensive compared to some places in Budapest!

Okay when I last went was 2013, but I took my team out. 3 courses of decent food plus wine and beer. Cost me (well, the company!) £92 for 13 people.

13x three course meals, plus wine and beer for £92. Mental.

Cheers pal. I do fancy doing Auchwitz and trying to catch a Wisla or Cracovia game over there, so will probably try and fit it in later this year or next.

Just got back from the Dominican Republic myself this morning. Nice to have 2 weeks doing very little, in lovely weather, but not somewhere I’d particularly recommend or want to go back to.

Never really fancied Dominican Republic, any good?

We went to Jamaica in February, that was great, would definitely go back there.
