Cousins 09:41 - Feb 27 with 2362 viewskingo

I have got to say that I have been disappointed with him in the past, but the last 3 or 4 matches he has played like the player I thought we had bought. Hopefully he can continue in this form.

He was immense, and has been playing incredibly well for weeks- interesting what happens when a player gets a run of games

The on the ball skills he showed against Watford unsurprisingly seem to be a one off. he's still good for a wobble or two in possession, but hes not the liability he used to be.

and we can live with him being a limited attacking player if he plays with the energy and enthusiasm he's been playing with

Funny how these players starting playing when their contract is up at the end of the season isn't it?

Get rid. Same as Lynch.

I know that's often the case but I don't think it's the reason. It's not like his work rate is much different - he just seems a lot more calm and aware of things than he has all season, starting from when he was brought on at half time and scored against Birmingham.

I agree, he was brilliant last night and has been more so recently. Has all the attributes to be a big player for us, I like him and Luongo in the middle, gives us a little bite

Poll: Of the 3 linked away, who do you think will still be a QPR player come February?

Cousins on 10:12 - Feb 27 with 2199 views00calben

Hmmm not sure I agree, but I'm still undecided. Am very pleased with his recent performances - one could argue its the first time he's been fit and played in his actual position for a run of games, but then one could argue that a few games doesn't outweigh the other 2.5yrs he's been at the club.

I think we need to wait until the end of the season anyway. We still have 12 games remaining. Let's see if it's more than just a good run over a few games.

Clearly a lot is going to depend on the financial side of things - who can we afford to cut from the wage bill etc.

I know what you mean but am not sure I'd want to include him in the same category as Lynch. This 'new improved' version of Cousins has been a long time in the making for a number of reasons, mostly to do with fitness, confidence, being played out of position etc and although I like his attitude, commitment and enthusiasm; he still looks like a stumble bum with poor technical skills.
Under different circumstances I would agree with your 'get rid' sentiments but I expect finances will dictate that, come the summer, we will have to sell our better players and not renew the contracts of our better paid players. I'm afraid that we may truly struggle next season and might need someone like Cousins (on reduced terms of course) to fight what I think will probably be a real relegation battle.

He's a tremendous athlete. He's growing in confidence with his touch and passing, but that's taking a long time after his injuries and being in and out of the team so often.

Considering how we signed him I expect he's on good wages. Renewal will all depend on what he expects, and what else is out there that we could get for the same or less. If he'd re-sign for average or below-average wages for our squad I'd keep him.

Agree about Lynch but I think we are now seeing the real Cousins, who is young enough to be a real bonus for us in the future.

There are definite attributes there but his first touch is always going to a problem at centre mid for me. He just shows the oppo too much of the ball.

Not to say I think we can afford to just let him go.

Think that's quite harsh. He's been really unlucky with injuries and you could never, ever say he doesn't try.
I didn't think he would be offered a new deal, but McClaren's been trying to get him in the side all season, so he must see something in training.
Good on him - seems a great lad and he's working his socks off at the moment.

Bare bones.

He's just another junior hoilett for me, shite 90% of his contract and starts playing when his contract is up. This is his shop window moment.

Last night the first half summed him up for me, doesn't read the game well enough to find space or drive forward when in possession. Not quite athletic enough to get onto passes that should of been his all day.

The injuries haven't helped but for me he just isn't that good. Depending on wages I think we should let him go.

His confidence looked completely gone a few months back. Great engine, but touch can let him down, needs luongo and freeman next to him to be effective. No doubt he is on far more money than a player of his ability should be on so if he is willing to take a pay cut we should keep.

Quite a cunning and risky plan to feign injury for most of the last couple of seasons so that he could be fresh for the last six months of his contract.

In all seriousness, I like what I'm seeing and his performances seem to be improving every week now that he's fit and getting a proper run in the team.

I'd be inclined to keep him if this continues but probably best to make a call at the end of this season.

By all accounts, the injury he suffered was horrific and to suggest he has been sat about eating wages and only now coming back due to the imminent ending of his contract is very harsh if you ask me. With Hoilett it was very obvious, however Cousins, with very limited time in his actual position has still always given his all.

Seems to me that a lot of people are very ignorant at the lasting mental and physical effects a career-threatening, recurring injury can have on a player. Mass going to the cup was timed perfectly for Cousins' recuperation and by giving him consistent game time in his ACTUAL position (not RB or RW) has helped him gain confidence and to get towards the same flow he had at Charlton.

To my mind he is a lot like quite a few players in thisteam. After getting dropped comes back and plays well for a few games then has some stinkers. Need to see more consistency from the whole team.

I think the bigger challenge may be around economics. It may be more viable to keep him and for those who say simply we should get rid, you have to take account of what we can afford by way of replacement.

I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt re his injuries, struggling to get in the team and play in his right position as against him simply showcasing himself for the shop window.

Personally I would persist with him in the team and if he continues to perform and it falls in line with our budget then renew his contract.

He has been much improved the past few games. However he still demonstrates his apparent lack of any intelligence all to often, particularly when needlessly running into people and giving fouls away, as he so intelligently did in the last few minutes last night giving away a perfectly positioned free kick. Fortunately it was caught by Lumley. He also concedes possession far too often for a CM.

On his current form though I'd much rather have him in the middle than Scowen.

Not sure we'd be able to afford him on a new deal as we are probably paying him a lot!

I don't agree.
He's finally been given a decent run in the team. Keep.

Been solid for the last few games. For a variety of reasons not lived up to expectations prior to that, one year extension to contract might be a good deal for all parties.
