Is it time to sell the club 12:23 - Feb 24 with 2291 viewsDalenet

Can't believe that I am suggesting this, but if the Board have no confidence to make changes because we have no money to do it, is it time to sell the club to somebody that has? I know the risks are high if we get the wrong owner, and the club that has simply been "looked after" for the next generation which we all like, but the truth is the club needs investment. We need better facilities and stability to attract talent, and we need to compete to stay in this league. I don't subscribe to the idea that we should be grateful to languish in league two. My fear is that we slide right down to oblivion. We won't be able to compete in League two with this squad if the confidence is so low.

What is the club worth! £1.5m

Love to have a common sense owner with money but thats a dream.....

Can 2000 loyal supporters cough up £750ea to buy the club between them for £1.5m?

Then where does the club go from there regards to finances etc.....
Somebody explain..

Perhaps a lottery winner could come along and invest in us.

Now would not be an ideal time to sell, we are in the depths of a decline on and off the pitch.

A nosey buyer might be watching and waiting for the bottom to fall out.

If I had won the £115m EuroMillions jackpot I would have secured debt of maybe £5m but I don't buy a ticket so probably not.
We own the ground now so there is the option of borrowing against it like Bury have, the difference being that we would probably use the money to buy land for an academy/training centre and it would, therefore, increase in value over time, rather than spending on players.

The mind boggles at the concept of "selling" the club. Nobody is going to buy it as an investment. The only valuation possible would be based on its potential as a development site. How many houses could be fitted on the land? Any sale proceeds would go to shareholders, after paying off debts. Over the years too many clubs have have fallen for the promises made by incoming owners only to end up in a right mess. As for borrowing against the ground, we've been there before and have only just got the ground back.

The very same thing happened at Torquay. Can't remember the figures or exact story but a couple who were lifelong supporters won £15'ish million, got on the board and helped the club significantly. Think the chap became ill and died and his wife took over but realised what a mammoth task bankrolling a small club was and just couldn't continue and so pulled out.

That's off the top of my head so apologies if in any way wrong. Remember at the time thinking Torquay were a very similarly supported club to Dale. Presently they're sitting top of National League South and hope they get promoted back up to the league some day - sure that there's many of our supporters who miss that away fixture/weekend away?

It's perhaps a very sad sign of the cost of footie these days...that it probably takes billionaires to be able to sustain a 'play thing'. It does happen though and anyone who remembers our great win away at Bournemouth - think a diving header from some young lad who Hilly rated very highly who later sustained a very serious ankle injury - and look where they are at the moment.
