Shaun Harvey to leave role as CEO of EFL 10:41 - Feb 18 with 7347 viewsrichranger

Shaun Harvey will leave his role as chief executive of the English Football League at the end of the season.

Harvey, 48, took over as CEO in 2013 and has been involved in football for 25 consecutive years.

Harvey said he was proud of what he has achieved "in what have not always been easy circumstances".

"I am happy to remain as CEO until after the play-offs, to conclude a number of outstanding matters that we are currently dealing with," he added.

"The time is right for the EFL to move in a different direction having concluded a number of commercial contracts that leave the League in a stable position."

Debbie Jevans, interim chair of the EFL said: "The EFL would like to thank Shaun for all he has delivered. The EFL is in a strong position with a growing fan base throughout the world and Shaun deserves a lot of credit for this."

Lots of friction between the haves and have nots. Tough job for whoever takes over to keep it together (if that’s the intention).

What are the odds on a female replacement? Nice and P.C.

Why would the gender of the person, of all of the things that could be talked about in a replacement, be of any relevance?

A female will only get the role if her CV states she hates QPR...Mind you that applies to the males too.

Hope not. Women should know their place, and it's not in football.

He has been practising his new catchphrase: 'Do you want fries with that sir?'

Bumtard.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Well as long as she hasn't previously led two clubs into three separate spells of administration she'd be an improvement on the male that's just left.

They've lined up Alex Scott for the role.

Part time obviously as she's flat out on Sky and is lined up to run the Premier League also!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

Whoever takes over, I suspect within 10 years we'll have Premier League 2, and regionalised divisions below that (maybe semi-pro).

regionalised divisions has been predicted by people to be imminent since the 80s.
It ain't happening.
And the Prem has no interest in a PL2 either. Why would it?

Only possible major upheavals:

National League becomes a fourth division as part of the football league.
Euro Super League, meaning a larger overhaul. But even that would take 10 years absolute minimum.

Bare bones.

I wouldn't mind a Euro Super League at all.

Get all the closed-shop, oligarch-funded, Sky-obsessed "big four" out of the way and into their own league where they and their hordes of plastic armchair fans can w--k on and on and on and on about whether Man U will come third or second this year or will it be Liverpool or will it be Man City, and leave the going to games in a competitive national league to the rest of us.

Classy.

Cos that Blatter guy did such a great job. Oh and Harvey.

Women couldn't possibly live up to those paragons...

the sooner all professional football is under one roof the better.

the ridiculous way we split the league and the governing body into two, then merged some of the league, has led tails wagging dogs and closed shops and financial breakdowns.

The split should be the pro and amateur games...

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Sounds good in principle
Unfortunately when the big teams go, the money goes with them. Then we are truly financially screwed.
