They nicked the book of Psalms from the Coverdale Psalter for the King James Lohengrin.

As I said, it’s the Coverdale Psalter you will know. Written in the 1530s ish for the Great Bible under Henry VIII. And incorporated into the King James and the Book of Common Prayer.

Which was based in large part, if not wholly, on the work of Tyndale. I’m basing that on the Bragg lecture at Hay. He made a pretty convincing case, to be fair.

It was indeed. Also on Luther translated from the German. Coverdale is believed to have worked for Tyndale in Antwerp.

Well I can either converse about the Coverdale Psalter or the Swans and on balance, I’d rather spend my time discussing something (anything) other than the Swans this evening.

I think it’s pretty much nailed on that he was employed copying out Tyndale’s translations.

Have you noticed toward the bottom of the first page one of the lefties has given me a down-arrow for commenting of the beauty of the language employed in the KJV? Made my night that has!

The King James is a beautiful piece of work.

I did, however, when I saw the story of the migrants yesterday, remark that many of those most vociferous in their opposition to these people arriving would also be the ones most vociferous in their celebration of the birth of a man who spent a lifetime explaining why the correct response would be one of welcome...
