Ralph's ins and outs, who will thrive on 23:13 - Dec 3 with 2274 viewsMatt_Finish

I think I'm seeing a possible run in the team for Gallagher

I think Gabbi might thrive if we are breaking with pace and he has space to run into to receive the ball facing the goal rather than having to wait until the defence is all set up and impetus lost. Was Boufal's loan just because of his Non-relationship with MH? Haven't beenfollowing his progress but would he jump at a chance of getting back into EPL with us? We need somebody with that extra bit of skill and vision and if channelled and motivated properly could be like a new signing. But of course could he do it on a cold wet night in .... er ..... um ..... Huddersfield? Damn you Stoke for getting relegated(but thank you for taken our spot!!)!!

Maybe Hesketh and Sims as well .... back to The Academy earning it's corn and reputation!!

Boufal is hardly setting the world on fire whilst on loan apparently. I think the club should cut their losses with him and Carillo.

to be fair Carillo is scoring more than our current strikers, maybe under a new guy he will flourish?
Then again maybe he won't
Boufal is SO frustrating, looks absolute quality for a minute and then.....

Pellegrino has won more matches in charge of Leganés than Hughes did at Saints ...

Will Ralph be able to recall all the on loan players so he can at least have a look at his squad in total?

I agree with some of the points already raised, an on form and focused Boufal could be just what we need, was Carillo really as bad as he has been made out to be (did he ever actually miss a clear cut chance?), apparently Hughes made it clear he never wanted Vestegaard in the first place, which would obviously play on the players confidence.

Clean slate, fresh start, a squad all playing for their places and their futures - onwards and upwards!!

Interesting that you say Hughes never wanted Vestergaard in the first place
Was that because he had someone else in mind, thought we had enough CBS or thought defending wasn’t important?

He didn't want him?? Where did you read that?

Listening to Talksport's SFC subject matter expert yesterday afternoon, who unlike most on Talksport actually sounded well informed and made sense, stated that MH had openly stated Vestegaard was not PL quality - which is odd given he had several successful years in the Bundesliga. What ever happened to signing players and making them better?

The other key fact that I picked up yesterday was that we are 3rd in the league for shots, but 18th for conversions - so creating chances is not a problem, the issues are converting and defending!!

See below, TalkSport Saints 'expert' - who actually sounded rather well informed!

I'm sure there are a number of players in the Bundesliga that Ralph will have an eye on in January - especially when he sees the "quality" of the defence he's inherited. Poor sod.

Old School is Cool

But the chances we create are not certain goal scoring chances, they are half chances. Don't help when you have a hit and hope player in Redmond, is he not top in Europe on total shots and shots off target? I swear I read it some where.

Am very happy a new manager Is coming in, and hoping he will add some thing else to are game other than just running and dribbling with Thierry Henry.

Statistics are a good guide EC, but they are not everything, shot conversions will be lower when you are reduced to shooting from further out!
At times our progress in attack has been so slow that it ends with an unlikely shot from well outside the box! All shots on target are counted, but those from closer range with power are more likely to converted.

Fully agree on defending, there are no positives, statistics only confirm the dismal efforts we have been watching for 2 seasons!
Let's hope RH gets more from the squad and strengthens where its needed!

First things he needs to do are increase training and fitness. Increase belief and confidence an find a leader on the pitch and assign him as captain. If they all drop a few pounds and get more fit, that will pick up points here and there. Confidence will grow with fitness also.

agreed
if he likes the high tempo pressing game i can see him upping the training to dbl sessions, that will separate the men from the boys and soon see those coasting along get left behind
I for one am excited if Ralph comes in and that we haven't gone for another short term save like BFS

Absolutely! This team look like a bunch of slow, tubby, unfit slobs. I'd fit right in.

Adkins and Pochettino and to a lesser extent Koeman liked a very fit team.

I agree, but will the likes of you give him time or will you moan when a few results don’t go to plan like you notmallly do? His methods will take time to implement, I hope our fans realise that

It will take time, spot on. In fact, we might find ourselves bottom at Christmas and then go on to become the first ever team bottom at Christmas to stay up. Or has that been done already?

Ralph's ins and outs, who will thrive on 14:15 - Dec 4 with 1557 viewssaint22

Yes I will
and if you mean the likes of me who has been moaning about poor appointments, shoddy leadership, asking where the high tempo, pressing game has gone, then if we get that and more from Herr Ralph I cannot wait

That's one thing I've never understood about the last few years. Other teams will always have more skilful players than us but there's no excuse for not being equally as fit as any team in the league.

Strachan was always excellent at producing fit squads. They had to be fit under Pochettino as well.

We may have crap players from time to time but they should at least be fit and crap.

RH likes a big mobile target man and he likes to develop youth. Unless we buy someone Gallagher fits the bill

Isn't Carillo more of a target man than our current strike force?

Presumably RB Leipzig's high tempo game was based around their players being dosed up to the eyeballs with their sponsor's drink?
