I dont think it is fair to say its awful recruitment for the last three years, after all it was only three years ago we signed Virgil Van Dijk, Charlie Austin and Oriol Romeu all have been successes to varying degrees.
Even two years ago We signed Redmond, Hojbjerg, McCarthy, Gabbiadini & Boufal with only boufal being a failure.
In 2017 it was Lemina, Bednarek & Hoedt, although they havent been raging successes, they have havent been as bad as some would suggest and Carrillo didn't really get a chance, 5 starts and 2 as sub in the Premier League is not enough to judge a player, he wasnt scoring but nor was anyone else so unfair to blame him.
This summers havent looked too sharp so far, but in truth our last three years transfer dealings havent been as bad as the popular view would have you belive | |

That's because all the quality players had been sold off by three years ago by Reed and we've been rubbish ever since. All down to massive failures by Reed and gross negligence and extreme incompetence. Without Reed out of the way, a new manager before Christmas (not chosen by the failure Reed) and three new players in Jan we're relegated.

Didn't really want Hughes here in the first place but we didn't have many other options. Certainly don't want him here now.
He has been hamstrung by ongoing sales and "replacements" that have seen the overall squad quality go down and down. Considering we lost the likes of Lambert, Lovren, Shaw, Lallana, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Alderweireld, Mane, van Dijk all to top ten sides; I can only think of 1 player in our squad who I reckon a current top ten side would want for their first team (Bertrand). The players brought in have been nowhere near the quality of the players that left, and we're left with a squad of averageness that the manager has not much idea what to do with.
Poor recruitment, poor management, poor visual entertainment on the pitch. Can't see Hughes turning that around. | | | |
