Valencia on 19:41 - Sep 1 with 1850 views | saint22 | It's an excellent city Architecturally great, good food and wine, small enough to stroll around. If you have kids the aquarium science park is pretty great too | | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Valencia on 19:58 - Sep 1 with 1835 views | franniesTache | Lovely city, superb food and wine (obviously) don't stay close to the beach though as it's miles from everything else, stay in the old town and walk out there. The drained river with the science centre etc in there is really good too and there's some great art galleries and museums. If you weren't so backward i'd really recommend going to this moorish place to eat, the food is fantastic and even though it's dry (due to being muslim) they do really nice alternatives http://www.balansiya.com/ | | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Valencia on 20:37 - Sep 1 with 1809 views | jordan_sibley | Aside from the Muslim place it sounds good. I'll stick to the Paella - the local dish.

Valencia on 22:11 - Sep 1 with 1762 views | franniesTache | Paella is best got from an area just outside of Valencia, where it actually comes from, most places will put on tours to it. Btw if you don't like Muslim stuff then avoid the paella, in fact avoid 90% of spanish food because it's from Moorish/Muslim decent in the first place. | | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Valencia on 23:03 - Sep 1 with 1746 views | jordan_sibley | 90% eh, or maybe a number plucked out of thin air? Pork features heavily in the Spanish diet, and let's not forget it's been 600 years since the Christians kicked them out. 700 years in Valencia. Even if the barbarians introduced rice the present dish of Paella has been refined by 700 years of Christian culinary influence.

Valencia on 23:17 - Sep 1 with 1735 views | franniesTache | clearly exaggerated but a huge amount of it yes, a large part of the base of most spanish dishes goes back to the moors, especially spices, plus the breads lend heavily to that tradition and some of the classic spanish dishes come directly from them, and are even named after them (moros y cristianos being the most obvious). The moorish invasion of spain was actually incredible for the food culture, as well as education and construction/architecture. In the same way that if you go back through most people's family trees in spain you'll find gypsies, you'll also find moors. Anyway i thought you hated spanish food dune? | | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Valencia on 23:28 - Sep 1 with 1729 views | jordan_sibley | Who? Anyway I will concede that back in the 11th century the Islamic world was at the fore front of civilisation in many ways. It's a shame they stopped evolving at this time though.

Valencia on 10:04 - Sep 2 with 1595 views | this_charming_man | He’s obviously got you confused with a former poster. It’s ridiculous to think there would only be one poster on mongboards who upholds traditional English values with a penchant for all things indigenous to our great island holding anything else in distain.

Valencia on 12:20 - Sep 2 with 1570 views | franniesTache | All joking aside Dune i'd recommend you go to Salamanca over Valencia, it's far more up your street and for some reason tourists don't go there much. The old town of Salamanca is absolutely beautiful, all interlinked streets in incredible stone work, and there's an amazing Art Deco museum that used to be someone's house until they died. When i went last i stayed in the Hotel Rector ( http://www.hotelrector.com/) facing the Art Deco house which is a stunning ex aristocratic house. Also if you're not driving you can easily get the Avé from there to Madrid which is also well worth a visit if you haven't been. | | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
