BREAKING NEWS on SKY NOW . . .
Sam Clucas’ proposed move from Swansea to Burnley has fallen through, Sky Sports News understands.
An £8m move had been agreed between the two clubs, but the player has failed to agree personal terms.

He obviously went for the money and it's backfired so now we should surely back the Manager and go and get Woods anyway as he looks a quality player. i still we need another Striker too as we need firepower this Season as it will make all the difference to where we end up .

So we aren’t going to do the ludicrous suggestion of paying him £2m in extra wages after Burnley matched them then?

... just as I said.

Good, stick the Swans jersey back on and get back playing for us then Sam.

How little did Burnley offer him ffs? They couldn't even compete with our championship wages.

Anyway, he turned down Europa League football for few more quids..he'll do great here! We have a lovely nest for mercenaries.

It’s breaking news on the back page of the South Wales Evening Post today as well. And that was printed last night.

I doubt he is on a Championship wage.

A championship player on PL wages

He's exactly the kind of player I'd expect has a substantial relegation wage cut. He has very little expectations spending most of his career in the championship and below.

If his wages don't get slashed by 40-50% then I'll be f*cked but Clucas signing managed to sound even more ridiculous.

So he wants to go to Burnley and earn more than earned with us last season and probably currently.

A player who has been relegated in successive seasons from the premier league and somebody stupid enough to pay £15M plus for him.

I doubt he has a future with us at all to be honest.

Who in their right mind agrees to take a 40 to 50% pay cut in a relegation clause. I doubt Clucas has that in his contract.

The real question should be who gave him such a high salary to begin with..given he was coming form a relgated side last season!

The same person who paid massively over the odds for him.

£8m now, eh? FFS.

Didn't some genius on here say he'd keep his value?

Every player signed with relegation clauses when we first came up. Not as high as 40% to 50% but still a decent level, around 30% I believe.

I don't know if that's changed in the past few years though.

Clucas is on £50,000 a week with us.

I wonder who that could be that pays over the odds for past it, former and average players, but won't pay the going rate for highly rated and players that haven't been chosen by himself ! Could it be a certain Sir Beaky of Beakyness near to Pontardawe, surely not.

25k is not a high salary by Premier League standards.

Clucas was on around £7.5k a week in the Prem with Hull.

I have no idea if he is or he isn't but given he was a big money signing, I wouldn't be surprised if he was on £70k in PL and that's been reduced to £50k on relegation. Sounds right enough.

What relevance is that to what we are paying him?

Don’t you have access to the contracts in the filing cabinet at the FAW anymore?

Of course he has! If he didn't agree to it he would have been stuck in Hull on around 20k a week. It was a no brainer for him. (Edit : or £7.5k as per the article above!)

A fit and committed Clucas would significantly add to the current mix

A Burnley-type is exactly what we need
