"In The Heat of the Night"

Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger's acting is second to none and without doubt the best acting I've ever seen, talk about two actors bouncing of each other.

As an added bonus you get to hear Ray Charles doing what he does best, singing.

Or

If you can't be arsed with that Brian try "No Country For Old Men" the baddest MOFO of all baddest MOFO'S steals the show

Llewelyn Moss: " If I don't come back, tell mother I love her. "

Carla Jean Moss: "Your mother's dead, Llewelyn".

Llewelyn Moss: "Well then I'll tell her myself."

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Midnight Run
Genre: Action/Comedy
Director: No idea
Stars: Robert DeNiro
Why: It should be corny rubbish, but the plotting and dialogue are great, loads of entertaining characters and genuinely funny.

I'll go for Spinal Tap.

Am I the only person on earth who falls into giggle fits when they hear the word "perspective"? Probably not.

"Life of Brian"
Monty Python/Terry Jones
Brian is a minor Everyman Jesus-type who dies for his revelations because everybody around him is hilariously self-centred, stupid and useless.

Edit: No, it's another Brian, different, not you.

Big shout for 2001 Sp Odd of course but also for massively unsung Sideways - blissful roadtrip stag do film funny, tender, with a great soundtrack. Spent a few days in Sonoma wine country as a result of it (already had the Saab 900 classic!).

Ps. For those with kids aged from about 8+, try and find the ghost story 'The Amazing Mr Blunden' (Dir. Lionel Jeffries. Diana Dors, Lionel Naismith, Lynne Frederick). Wonderful eerie stuff.

i also saw the stage play of 'sideways'. Magic!. ;-)

me and the mrs can watch it over and over. Paul Giamatti is fantastical.

edit. i think '2010' is the most under rated movie of all l time .. this scene as 'bowman' changes from his normal physical self to a higher being and then to an embryo is breathtaking.

another edit must add 'cruising' a 1980 crime film written and directed by William Friedkin' on the seedy hedonistic gay nightlife of new york and an unhinged serial killer . al pacino stars

"Triumph of the Will"
Propaganda/Documentary
Hitler and Nazis/Leni Riefenstahl
The call to Germany to embrace Hitler and National Socialism; an as-it-happened, crystallised moment of time in 1934 before Hitler revealed his true agenda: continental war and mass subjugation.

(No, I'm not a nazi. "Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!" Oh, that reminds me of another one...)

One of my favs--
Grosse Pointe Blank
Action, light black quirky comedy, satirical
John and Joan Cusack, Minny Driver, Dan Ackroyd, Alan Arkin

Good Chemistry between John Cusack and Minnie Driver.
Joan Cusack at her oddball best.
Quirky and different.
God one liners and witty lines
Makes you think twice about going to school reunions.
Excellent 80s nostalgia soundtrack.

I usually can't stand Dan Ackroyd, which is kind of perfect for this movie, because his character is supposed to be annoying :).
