Alfie Mawson for England? 21:11 - Mar 3 with 9374 viewsskettyparkherbert

To me he is looking better game by game but could he make the world cup squad?

Who are the other centre back contenders Stones, Dann, Jagielka, Kane, smalling, surely he's up there with them?

I could! We need to get him tied down on a long term deal before he goes anywhere near that motley crew.

The last thing we want is Mawson going to the WC and coming back in late and not having a proper pre-season.

He's not ready for the World Cup. Can't even handle Glenn Murray.

I hear what you are all saying but all the other candidates have also had a few nightmare games too.

I personally think he is worth a punt. He plays more regularly than the other candidates and i think that Southgate will want to play players who are playing regularly in "supposedly" the best league in the world?

Well I take your point but even if they go out in the group stages he’ll still be back later than everyone else.

He’s still learning he game, a long way to go for him yet.

The West Ham guy brought a 40 yes ball down on his chest turned and scored today, small errors , etc .

Hope he stays with us next season because he’s doing ok

Last few internationals Southgate has picked:

Stones, Macguire, Cahill, Keane, Gomez, Jones, Smalling.

Gomez has been playing right back most of the season. Jones hardly gets a game and is injured again. Cahill no longer 1st choice at Chelsea.

So room for some outside of those to get in the mix with Maws and Tarkowski top of the tree I think, but don't discount Dunk, Mee, Cook, Lascelles, too - in that order.

If we stay up sadly I think he's nailed on to be sold in Summer as one of only players going to raise £30m+ to keep the greedy ones happy.

How much is Van der Hoorn worth I wonder he's been great since he's had a run of games, improving all the time, which as obviously helped Alfie.

Mawson plays well when we play 3 at the back but is poor when we play a flat back 4.

He likes to play football and has a bit of class about him so he's completely unsuitable for the England philosophy.

Obviously you didn't see the change in his performance first half V second half against Brighton.

Arnautovic did him (and VdH) got and proper as well after diving in. He should have scored there.

If he goes to the world cup will not be coming back here, will be tapped up and gone before start of season, sorry but that is the way of the football world.

Never knew getting old would happen so quick!
