Volunteers needed now! 11:31 - Feb 5 with 43554 views | R17ALE | Just had word that the club are doing the drill and fill by hand today. Anyone with an hour or two to spare is welcome, badly needed, as it's a time consuming business. I think the general aim is to whack in one hole per square yard about 2-3 feet down and then fill with kiln dried sand. Given that the pitch is around 8000 square yards the club needs help. Now!

Volunteers needed now! on 12:41 - Feb 5 with 14896 views | Swissdale | Get Reece Brown off the training pitch and doing this - he'd be of more use.
Volunteers needed now! on 12:49 - Feb 5 with 14842 views | electricblue | The Dale board have got some nerve in my opinion. Practically non-existant with info about the pitch situation and now less than a day away from KO of an important match they suddenly want supporters help....

Volunteers needed now! on 13:18 - Feb 5 with 14643 views | DaleiLama | Guess we have our answer to this now: _________________________________________________________________ WIGAN GAME on 16:16 - Jan 29 by electricblue Based on the video it would take until now and next august to drill n fill.... Plus they are adding sand into the holes is adding sand into the holes solve the drainage problem... WIGAN GAME on 16:21 - Jan 29 with 861 views Dalielama That green looks pretty big and they can do that in an hour with 2 machines. I suspect the speed of the process depends on how much money and urgency you throw at it so I'll let you draw your own conclusions on that. ________________________________________________________________ PS Probably too late to round a few of these fellas up now [Post edited 5 Feb 2018 13:29]

Volunteers needed now! on 13:37 - Feb 5 with 14536 views | 442Dale | https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2018/february/pitch-update-dome-cover/ This update said with the dome going up on Thursday night/Friday it would would allow ground staff and the contractors to carry out the drill and fill procedure. So is it nearly done now? The article also says they’ll keep supporters updated so expect something further today.

Volunteers needed now! on 13:42 - Feb 5 with 14496 views | DaleiLama | This from yesterday's "PITCH" thread (so who knows?!?). Maybe someone who went along can confirm later? "The Pitch on 12:58 - Feb 4 with 1540 views tony_roch975 _________________________________________________ The Pitch on 08:55 - Feb 4 by 442Dale They can prepare the pitch under the cover, it won’t need removing until a few hours before kick off. If we win the game, I really hope the club are considering keeping the cover for a longer period even if it ends up costing most of the prize money for a win. _______________________________________________________________________ Apparently not - just been to ground & cover's gone, several staff around - drill n' fill time?? Volunteers needed now! on 13:43 - Feb 5 with 14483 views | BartRowou | Call me old-school but isn't Sunday a better day for a drill and fill? Plus, it gives an extra day to do work what with the game being tomorrow.

Volunteers needed now! on 14:14 - Feb 5 with 14343 views | Toffeemanc | Reece wouldn't be any use for this job. As soon as he crosses the white line he loses all sense of positioning and would only end up drilling in the wrong place!

Volunteers needed now! on 14:42 - Feb 5 with 14222 views | RAFCBLUE | Why is this a surprise? The Supporters Trust notes from 28th January say: "The short term plan will not provide a pitch that is particularly suited to the needs of the management but it is essential that it allows games to take place. The club said that underneath the pitch, the drains themselves are actually fine. All of the issues relate to the surface turf holding water. They said that they continue to be in talks with a number of companies in an effort to get the pitch playable." Do those talks with companies not include ensuring adequate staffing of the operation? And if supporter help was needed why could it not have been asked for before today? An announcement at 11.30am on an unofficial fan site 32 hours before kick off and with bad weather expected this evening hardly inspires confidence, does it? IF the game doesn't go ahead tomorrow then what is the plan? We've Sat/Tues fixtures up to 5th round day even before we consider Millwall. For a third tier club in the modern era of games, this is extremely poor.

Volunteers needed now! on 15:22 - Feb 5 with 14045 views | SuddenLad | Perhaps they had envisaged, or had been advised, that the remedial work would have been nearer completion than it actually is at this moment and that extra help is therefore necessary. They have probably asked for the help at their earliest opportunity. How else would they do it ?

Volunteers needed now! on 15:30 - Feb 5 with 13988 views | dingdangblue | I presume if the groundsman has left his position then that won't help matters - who is actually running / organising the operation? There is certainly not much time to get the pitch flat or do any remedial work now. When are Millwall supposed to be setting off for the game? I presume it's tomorrow morning ? Will there be a pitch inspection? Even if the drill and fill helps the drainage situation there is every chance that the referee isn't going to think that the surface is safe to play football on! It's a big mess.
| |
Volunteers needed now! on 15:52 - Feb 5 with 13891 views | SuddenLad | I am quite sure that Millwall are being updated regularly about the situation as are the relevant authorities. The club have already announced that they are in touch will all concerned about the on-going situation. Doubtless, a referee will be contacted to inspect the pitch as soon as is necessary if only because the work has been carried out and to make sure all is OK. Work is still going on and will probably continue after the game tomorrow. It is only a 'make do and mend' situation, not a final solution.

Volunteers needed now! on 16:01 - Feb 5 with 13819 views | MoonyDale | Holy crap if that's an up to date pic you can forget tomorrow's game going ahead, this all seems to have been handled very slowly, almost as if people behind the scenes have been sitting on their hands rather than getting of their collective backsides....The cover should have been on days earlier than it was and with the forecast for tonight of -5 followed by sleet and snow I'd me amazed if it's anywhere near playable ........

Volunteers needed now! on 16:17 - Feb 5 with 13708 views | RAFCBLUE | Possibly. But in that case who is managing the works within the club? The state of the pitch has been known about since the Southend postponement of 20th January. The Millwall replay from 5pm the 27th January. It the earliest opportunity we knew that we had a problem for a 6th February replay was 11.30 today then there is something badly wrong with either the contractor the club has chosen or the process to manage it. We would have had a lot of fans who could have helped over the weekend if this had been known. What happens if the requested volunteers can't turn up to help? Is the work in jeopardy or the game in doubt? Or alternatively, if volunteers assist but don't get it exactly right because they are helping out does that risk ineffective work and/or further damage to the pitch? Anyone that's done a big garden knows the effort involved and we are talking about 8000 square foot of football pitch! We seem not to have anyone in the organisation who has a big garden or temerity to admit that they can't reach/have sacked their gardener!! [Post edited 5 Feb 2018 16:19]
