So we are looking down a bit of a barrel.

Could a win at Gills spark a winning run that gets Dale out of the bottom 4 at any time this season before the end of April.

Let's have a straw poll of where posters see our prediciment.

One word response lets get as many responding as possible.

Survive or relegated?

My gut feeling says relegation.
My heart says survival.

One thing is for sure, we don't need dilettante fancy dan footballers who don't fancy it at the moment and there currently seems to be a few of those.

We need battlers. I mentioned on a different thread that when we were in trouble under Parkin he went and signed seasoned pros like Jeff Smith, Greg Heald and Neil Redfearn who could be relied upon to turn in a shift and scrap for the cause.

I think you mean Shaun Smith.

Jeff Smith only made one appearance.

At the moment

Relegation

but the next 10 games are crucial in if you exclude the 2 games against Wigan, I feel the 4 home games are winnable and we should be able in theory be able to draw or win the 4 away games, which if we got 16 to 20 points, would if it happened would transform the season and give us hope.

Would a lot of this pessimism change with an unlikely win at Gillingham? Perfect scenario Saturday evening will be 3 points for Dale, Oldham lose to Rotherham, MK Dons beat Wimbledon,Bradford beat Northampton. That would put us 3 points behind Oldham with 2 games in hand and also a home game v Oldham. If we are to survive - it HAS to start on Saturday though. Following up last weeks away win at Donny with our first away league win and we can start to hope - anything less than that and it's looking even grimmer.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Even a massive win at Gillingham wouldn't spark my hopes. It needs to be more than that. When we beat Gillingham at home convincingly, I was fooled into thinking that was a turning point and could see us stringing results together for another successful season.

It'll take a lot more to get my hopes up this time.

After the Peterborough game I was mildly optimistic we could just about survive, we played quite well that day. Looking back, we've not won a league game since then, so was it more a case of Peterborough rearing their inconsistency head that day? Maybe, maybe not.

Unless we win at least 3 of our next 5 games and bring a couple of fresh faces in this month then I've got absolutely no reason whatsoever to think we'll stay up.

Nah it was more of a case of us finally settling on a formation that works for us, playing well and then our manager totally ditching the system the game after

As Mr Hill has said many times ,that by this time in a season the league table does not lie so I am fearful that we are facing an uphill battle to avoid relegation
Feel that we need to bring in 3 more players if we are to stand any chance of avoiding being in League 2 next season.
1) A striker who knows were the net is and can put the ball in it!!!!
2) A player to give us some width.
3)Someone to play football through the midfield.
If my wishes can't be fulfilled then at least lets give it a proper go and try and attack the opposition so that at least if we are to be relegated ,we can say that we had a go and were not left wondering what if.
Don't get to many games these days because of were I now reside much of the time, but perhaps someone can fill in something I feel I must have missed---What happened to the Williams we had on loan from Liverpool?

Yep, it was nothing to do with Posh's inconsistency. It was that we'd finally found a formation that worked for these players. It's utterly bizarre that we've only deployed it twice since then - a win at Doncaster and a very admirable 45 minutes at Bradford.

So in 2 and a half games of that formation this season it's 2 wins and a battling 3-2 45 minute loss. It's not a stretch to say that if we'd played that formation consistently since the Peterborough game we'd have more points than at present.

Davidab - MJ Williams has returned to Liverpool due to an injury.

If Hill wanted to take McNulty off at HT at Bradford (and subsequently leave him out), why did the system have to be ditched too? There were options on the bench to ensure we still had three at the back and wing-backs.
