QPR1st have been asked to attend a meeting with representatives of the club and the police . The purpose of the meeting will be for the Police in conjunction with the Clu to explain what safety precautions are going to be taken for the QPR v Millwall match, with the aim of ensuring that both sets of fans can enjoy the game safely.

Few years ago at theirs we got held back, then put on a train to london bridge, then marched down to the northern line at london bridge - regardless of where we were going. there were people who'd parked near the ground who were forced onto the northern line at London Bridge, ended up having to make the trek all the way back to the ground to get their car at gone midnight. I was staying with my then mrs in Hammersmith that night and it took me longer to get back there from the Den than it did for us to drive back to the Bush from Burton Albion last season.
Maybe we could march them to White City, put them on the central line to ealing broadway, then take them off at ealing broadway and stick them on a train there to Didcot? | | | |

I seem to recall that one of their fans got hit by a dart after the game outside the stadium which was only about an inch from puncturing his lung. Their fans then spent a week crying on about how we're all khunts for doing such a thing and then it turned out it was a Millwall fan that threw the dart and they all scuttled off and pretended it never happened.
Of course we have our share of idiots, but we all know who the problem is here. | |

Its a sad indictment of Millwall that they are the only club that we have to have this sort of preparation for. I shall never forget coming out of a game with them at HQ about and walking back towards White City station thinking that I had never seen so many policemen, police dogs, police horses and police helicopters in one small place anywhere before at a football game anywhere in the world.
Whatever past for humanity in the away end at the time had twice failed to break through the barriers to the home fans during the game and then ended up having a fight amongst themselves about two thirds of the way through the second half before trying to pull out seats.
Truly horrible experience and very unpleasant group of "fans." | |

Why is this tactic no longer a thing? Granted it got over used in the bad old days, but recently we've either had them being let out at the same time (asking for trouble), or even worse, home fans being directed right round the other side of the ground to get away instead of walking down SAR. Can't think of a game where holding the away fans in would be more appropriate tbh unless they're worried about them smashing up the ground. | | | |

No solution for next week, but I think in the long term, Millwall games (including at The Den) should be treated like normal matches, with the same police presence you get anywhere, forcing them to mingle with other supporters outside the ground. Sounds nuts, and of course there would be some incidents (which could be dealt with as at any other match), but I suspect all this palaver about security plays into their mythology: they love feeling like an invading army so terrifying that they need an escort wherever they go. Perhaps less neanderthal Millwall fans (and I know a couple personally, as well as the wonderful Danny Baker) are put off going away by all that crap too, so you're left with the hard core twerps. QPR1st and the LSA met representatives of the club, the police and Millwall fans. Based on current intelligence the police have said that their response will be ‘graduated and proportionate’. There will be no specific escort of Millwall fans to the ground although officers will be stationed at key points. Millwall fans will not be held back at the end of the game.
The club has confirmed that Ellerslie Road will be the only entry/exit point for Millwall fans. At the end of the match they will be directed towards Bloemfontein Road. QPR fans are advised by the police to arrive early and those in Ellersie Road to leave in the direction of Loftus Road.
QPR1st representatives suggested keeping Millwall fans in after the match for a short period to minimise contact between the two sets of fans. It is understood that this option will only be considered if there is trouble on the night prior to the match ending. | | | |

There does seem to be a growing movement, and it will grow further after the ridiculous scenes at Bournemouth last week, to stop criminalising football fans. Cardiff, where there used to be loads of trouble, have found that by treating the away fans with respect, letting them drink, stewards wearing their colours, be polite, let them drink where they like etc that it's actually reduced trouble there massively.
If you shove fans about, pen them in, be really heavy handed with them it's actually often counter productive.
