You can connect them to a PC or any other device with a jack output.
Most modern sound bars also have Bluetooth capability so you can hook them up wirelessly to your phone or tablet.
Personally I don't like them as the bass response is bad because of the small size compact speakers.
If you are going to use one, they always work best with an extra bass woofer or speaker to give a more robust sound.

Cracking sound but they are speakers not a sound bar.
Problem with sound bars is they sound tinny...too much treble and mid range,no deep bass.
Bought one recently for my Sony TV and hardly used it afterwards as I had a better sound from the tv speakers!
Got a simple surround sound speaker system now...much better than a sound bar. | |

Aye. I was giving best alternative. They plug into our bedroom tv, and Bluetooth the tablet, and are tiny enough to fit prettily and elegantly behind the telly. In fact, I think I'd like to shag them.

In my games room I have a PC, PlayStation 3, and TV
I currently have the PC connected up to the PC Monitor and the Tv together. So I can play a YouTube video on PC and watch it on the tv.
What I want is a sound system that is going to be quite loud and good bass, and which I can connect to the TV so I can play music through the PC on it and also connect to the PlayStation.
Do I go for PC speakers or a sound bar? | |

Take some photos of the backs of your devices and then get yourself down to Maplin.
You can connect almost anything these days with the range of fixed connections that are out there.
Tell them what you're trying to do, show them your photos and they'll sort you out. | |

Even with an expensive system like Bose ,it's impossible to get a full range sound because of the tiny compact speakers.
To get good bass,bigger speakers or ideally a separate bass woofer cab is needed.
Very cheap and a good sound is easily achievable theses days for under a ton. | |

I bought a Tannoy Soundbase a couple of years ago at a bargain price from Richer Sounds. Must say it has made a huge difference to the sound quality from our flat screen which sits upon it.
Nowhere as good as a separates system but we had no room for anything more, so this compromise has worked out very well.

Pc SPeakers are designed for closer audio, so you don't need massive volumes. They are great at a desk where you are like 1.5 metres away, and the surround sound placement is designed for this in mind. Filling a room with a cranked up PC speakers is not going to give you the experience on the couch as it would in the desk chair.
Honestly it depends on what sort of effect your looking for. Sound bars are just small easy to place front facing flat audio, that can fill a room and are designed for that purpose with no omni directional thought. Not to unlike a cabinet style stereo monitor.
If you are looking for surround sound for an entertainment type room, you might want to get a proper audio set up. | |

I've plugged my macbook and ipod into these and the sound is really good. I've even tried them with my Audio Technica AT-LP120 deck and it still sounds really good. I don't have the wireless version though. The cabled up model is a good £99 cheaper. | |
