Joey's Book 11:36 - Sep 22 with 13900 viewsLunarJetman

Got this review on Amazon....

"Contains quite a considerable amount of nonsense. It reads like Rik from The Young Ones' essay about what he did in the summer holidays; a summer that saw an inexplicably bitter Rik from The Young Ones play for Burnley, pausing occasionally to assault an adolescent.

If you ever wanted to know what Marlon Brando's "I coulda been a contender" speech might've read like if written by post-success Freddie Star over 352 pages, this is the book for you. If not, I'd recommend that you check out literally any other book ever written, or perhaps even the calming serenity of staring into the middle distance for 3 to 4 hours.

Awarding it 2 stars as the cover image make Barton look like a minor character from HBO's Deadwood. Or an owner of an unremarkable cafe who, in an attempt to reverse his business's ailing fortunes, has rebranded himself as a provocative hipster who's rude to breastfeeding mothers on his cafe's Facebook page.

Disco, was that you?

Superb prose. Made me chuckle.

really, really curious to read it (in the same way i 'enjoy' reading the daily mail for the outrage...) but i absolutely refuse to give the tw@t any more of my money considering how much he's had from me / us in the last few years.

if anyone has a hooky copy lying about (that LFW in no way endorses me seeing...), let me know?

Can we not knock it?

Don't know why I am reading this thread. I would like to airbrush him out of our history.

Suggest we all give this a wide berth unless you see a copy in a charity shop sometime in the future.

Bet Joey's book isn't as good as http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/forum/152278/page:1#.V-O

A magnificent football club, the love of our lives, finding a way to finally have its day in the sun.

Superb.

I have no idea what would drive that journo to read the entire book and write a review that was almost as long as the book itself, but thank Christ he did. Extremely chucklesome.

Must read all of that. Either I missed it at the time or I've forgotten it somehow.

It'll be in the 50p bin by next month and I suspect charity shops will decline it....

It came out when Chris Ramses was trying to undo the legacy of Gary Porkchop (nee Boughtcrap). It's solid psychadelic stuff (and probably longer than Steve Bruce's effort).

Are you referring to the book, or the player himself?

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.

Are the pages soft and quilt-like? Probably more expensive than bog roll but on balance far more cathartic

Blackadder: Ah yes, my favourite football-philosophy book. Soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent.

Melchett: Top-hoe Blackadder, I thought it would be right up your alley.

That's the simplified version for fans of Chelsea, Leeds or Millwall.

Favourite for this year's Joe Orton Prize, for the book with cocks drawn on it most often.

Likelihood of me reading this book is slightly lower than me reading Mein Kampf aloud in its entirety at Speaker's Corner while dressed as Grayson Perry impersonating Donald Trump in a frock.

You should try that - it's the sort of thing that could win the Turner Prize.

It's a thought. The best thing is that even if I did go for it I still wouldn't have committed to reading Joey fckn Barton's book.
