Rarely discussed on here.Is that because we are primarily shallow.

The Welsh have a tremendous historical appreciation of this form of music.

My favourites..

Brandenburg Concerto .JS Bach, who would have been the best modern day bass guitarist who ever lived.

Au Clair de LUNE. Debussy

Tchaikovsky. Piano Concerto number 1 B flat m

LEAST FAVOURITE

Anything by Britten

Any Oratorio

We've been given two tickets to see Ludovic Einaudi in Cardiff.
I wasn't going to go but after reading up on him I'm going to have a look.
Apparently he scored the music for This Is England and Dr Zhivago.

Dr Zhivago (the film) music was written by Maurice Jarre - Jean Michel Jarre's father.

Brilliant film composer.

There is a snob value in classical where there shouldn't .

Witness the serious faces on university challenge over classical whereas with popular there is simply distain .

Opera was the music of the people and all the great arias pop songs of the day

O solo Mia an example

Let's keep it nice

O sole mio would be a better example of an operatic aria turned into a popular song if it was actually from an opera of course rather than being just a popular song which happens to be in Italian

A great song though in fairness.

I particularly enjoy that other great operatic aria 'Go Compare'.

I recently learned Ludovic's "Nightbook" on the old ivories, he has some nice compositions.

CLASSICAL MUSIC on 15:44 - Sep 9 with 2678 viewsPegojack

Not to mention that staple of Italian opera 'Just One Cornetto'.
1

CLASSICAL MUSIC on 15:46 - Sep 9 with 2672 viewslondonlisa2001

That's just 'O Sole Mio' anyway of course. As is 'It's Now or Never'.

Funny how adverts used to have really memorable songs though. Rare these days.

Bernard Herrman was a brilliant film score composer. Chacksfield was about as cheesy as it gets...

Pay attention, Richie.

I often attend opera, but not a buff by any means. Its the one type of music that brings me out in goosebumps, or brings tears to my eyes. Nothing else gets close.

Au contraire the lovely lisa has somewhat scored an own goal.

Arias from operas were essentially created by the likes of Puccini and Verdi in particular for the "people" so essentially pop music of the day, which was my point.

Hair splitting has started early today I note

It might be messy here on Sunday evening.

We re off tonight to sample the culinary delights of Crosby.

I ll leave warwick to tap that in, so have a pleasant evening people
