HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:17 - Jul 10 with 4239 views | patred | Glad I paid for the holiday and flights before the pound took a dive.. just spending money now

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:30 - Jul 10 with 4221 views | dune | I wanted to take €1500 away with me. Would've cost about £1100 before the vote. Will cost about £1225 now. So an extra £125 for the price of sovereignty. However where I'm staying the servants are apparently rather pushy for tips. I had factored this into my spending. My strategy is now not to tip them and this will cancel out the drop in the exchange rate.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:34 - Jul 10 with 4208 views | dune | I have a Halifax credit card for use abroad. https://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/clarity-card/ It offers the best rates for purchases and is ideal for an emergency. Just make sure you pay in the currency of the place you're staying & pay it off on time. Still like to take cash as well though.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:40 - Jul 10 with 4201 views | WinchesterExile | I was at a conference this week at which all 5 economists speaking predicted Stirling to weaken further. Our own cash trader says the same. £ could go as low as $1.15 over the next 12 months. Therefore buy at least some, if not all, your currency now.
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:43 - Jul 10 with 4192 views | SalisburySaint | I have a similar Halifax card which offers you a far better rate for cash from cash point than you will get from any money exchange in this country or abroad with no transaction charges [Post edited 10 Jul 2016 9:44]

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 09:55 - Jul 10 with 4163 views | dune | Delighted. A few extra pounds for currency on a holiday is a price worth paying. The drop in sterling is very good news for exporters. I fully expected a drop in sterling prior to voting. Like I say you can easily neutralise the fluctuation by not tipping. [Post edited 10 Jul 2016 9:59]

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 10:04 - Jul 10 with 4150 views | Kennington | I agree with you Dune about tipping. Tipping is just a license for an employer not to pay their staff a proper wage. I try and avoid tipping at the best of times. Pat, probably your best bet is to get a prepaid travel money card that uses a better currency rate than ATMs or your credit or debit card. Not much in it though whatever way you choose.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 11:00 - Jul 10 with 4101 views | dune | Pat, you might be getting a lift to the airport, but as its 3 months away you could get really good rates for rail travel. I've trained it to Gatwick and it's a doddle if you plan it. If you want I'll find you the best routes and prices.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 11:20 - Jul 10 with 4065 views | dune | Looks lovely Pat, just the sort of place I'd book. I used HomeAway to book an apartment, in truth it was more of a bed sit ha, but it was in the perfect location and worked for us.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 11:49 - Jul 10 with 4023 views | LenWilkins | If it was me I'd do what I always do in Europe Pat. I'd get about £200 worth of Euros from Tesco or the Post Office a week in advance and then use a debit card in a cash machine abroad for the rest and possibly a credit card for restaurant bills etc. I would never use a credit card in a cash machine here or abroad by the way, as there is no interest free period. You start paying interest the second you draw your cash out.
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 13:10 - Jul 10 with 3964 views | SalisburySaint | From what I've found personally the interest paid is more than made up by getting a far better exchange rate than available from other sources
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 13:47 - Jul 10 with 3940 views | Kennington | I'd avoid the Post Office, pretty much always the worst rate on the high street.
| |
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 13:57 - Jul 10 with 3929 views | dune | For €200 it's not really worth worrying, but like you say you're better off using the moneysavingexpert tool to find a the best deal for larger amounts. If travelling to Turkey you're better off just taking a wad of £10 notes. They love them. [Post edited 10 Jul 2016 13:59]

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 14:01 - Jul 10 with 3922 views | WinchesterExile | It's not just a case of a few pounds of holiday money though Duney. I have a client who's cancelled an AIM listing and another who's pulled out of a deal for a substantial part of Bond Street. If that's just me then there will be thousands of companies cancelling or postponing deals. Therefore GDP will be down at least for the next couple of years and that will hit jobs and that will hit tax receipts and that will mean an even longer period of austerity. Whatever happens in the longer term, the next 24 months are going to be rocky and maybe very rocky. Strap yourselves in.
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 14:06 - Jul 10 with 3917 views | dune | It was always going be thus. I voted leave knowing this. The benefits will outweigh all this in the medium to long term imo. A lot of the negativity is down to the likes of Mark Carney who has politicised his announcements.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 16:50 - Jul 10 with 3854 views | saint68 | The current bolstering of the euro is going to be very short-lived!!! Expect a massive gain against the euro by September!! MARK MY WORDS!!!!.

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 20:03 - Jul 10 with 3801 views | saint68 | Northern European underpinning of the currency will slowly erode !! SIMPLE!!!!. [Post edited 10 Jul 2016 20:10]

HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 20:56 - Jul 10 with 3771 views | WinchesterExile | I've no idea what this means so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. What I can say though is that you seem to be able to foresee economic circumstances which no one else does. Good luck with that.
HOLIDAY MONEY ? on 21:22 - Jul 10 with 3745 views | dune | On the subject of holidays I've just forked out for some new sunglasses. Will still take my rayban wayfarers (grey gunmetal not the ghastly common black ones), but have gone for some classy gold framed aviators with blue mirror lenses for this year.
