Whole swathes of that I agree with except: 'the balance of funding has been slightly off'. I am pleased you recognise that there is a disparity but 'slightly'?? Welsh Labour are even more complacent than that. They consider they are being very fair handed. The per capita spend highlighted by the Daily Post highlights a much bleaker picture for the rest of Wales. Apologies I do not have that figure anymore. I think JohnL or Copper picked up in that one. This is the crux of the matter for me. I am a Corbynite and would like nothing better than Carwyn to adopt his decentarilst and redistribution of wealth polices. Unfortunately until Welsh Labour get a wake up call from the electorate then this desperate situation will continue. Frankly I don't care if Leanne Wood is not fully in tune with her party. There is little evidence of this from what I have seen although I accept no party is perfect. She must be doing something right to have been elected leader. I genuinely hope that Welsh Labour eventually rids itself of the career politicians. Those outside of the SE should hang their heads in shame. If change occurred then I suspect you and I would be on a very similar footing.

I'm in the same boat. There's nothing from any of the parties that make me want to vote for them. The choice is between a veritable smorgasbord of socialists who want to give all our money away to the Jeremy Kyle brigade, a group of closet racists and some posh tw ats.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Apologies. I was being a bit ironic there as a result of your 'tedious' comment. I suspect many feel the same way and are fed up with the likes of me harping on. The electorate need as much of a wake up as the politicians IMHO however. As far as I am concerned it is not just here I pass comment. I am not like JohnL and Copper who are people of action but I will bend the ear of anyone prepared to listen ......much to the annoyance of my wife ;-)

Like many here, I've always been a Labour supporter because I am ideologically Left wing, but I don't believe this government are and they've betrayed out city and our country.
As I said, if these policies were enacted under the Tory banner, people would be outraged at the 'Tories looking after the rich'. When Labour do it, everyone turns a blind eye and keeps voting them in.
I'd love Labour to become a real working-class party again, and turn Swansea around like they Cardiff, but that'll never happen, and when confronted about their policies, they take credit for stuff they didn't finance here, and ignore the disparity - again, which isn't slight, even looking at the two 'city deals', there's a £500m funding gap, and that doesn't include all the developments built there over the past 2 decades.
Sadly, voting them out seems to be the only way they'll learn. If people are mistreated long enough, eventually they'll fight back...one would hope.
The good news for you is, I imagne Labour will win, the relief road will blow more billions on the south east, and Labour will continue investing all our money into Cardiff and Swansea will continue to suffer for another 5 years until we start it all again...
The irreversible damage to the socialist movement is being done by Labour itself because the party could not give a sh't about anyone outside its Cardiff exclusion zone/Cardiff bubble!
B'llocks to you Labour! If the only reason to vote for you is tribalism of "vote for us because we're not Tories" what damning indictment is that? Take your Red-Tory social injustice, lack of equality, obscene funding bias and despicable disregard and contempt for lesser affluent area's of Wales up to its 'spiritual home' i.e. Tory H.Q where it belongs!
Welsh Labour = Tories!

Not only are Labour spending a vastly disproportionate amount of money in Cardiff and looking after the rich, but they're also running us into debt to do so.
So, we've racked up £14 BILLION worth of debt to make Cardiff a city state. Bravo Labour, bravo.
Yeh a few of us here were actually having a decent, informed discussion. You're statement of Welsh Labour = Tories is so out of touch with reality, but you already knew that.
You sound a lot like our old friend, Trampie. Given that he isn't here right now, running his mouth about things he doesn't seem to understand, I am wondering actually if "wingstandwood" is actually you, Trampie?!
I don't feel like I should have to justify how obvious it is that Labour and the Tories are miles apart. But, just in case I do, how about you inform yourself about the latest Tory proposals at the Assembly to directly fund schools, or their idiotic idea to get rid of tuition fee help for students and tell me that this isn't a load of neo-Conservative nonsense that only helps the wealthy?

Yeah with every debt comes cuts! The more I read of stuff like that the more I want to throw up. Its absolutely f#cking disgusting.
Is there any wonder there is so much (utterly deserved!) despair/anxiety at the current South West Wales steel industry situation? On one side you've got the Tories who could not give a sh@t about us and Wales and on the other side you've got Welsh Labour who cannot give a sh@t either because they only give a damn about Cardiff!

The thing you don't get because you have such a myopic and utopian view of Labour, is that Welsh Labour have very little in common with the party's true principles.
Cardiff, and the Vale of Glamorgan, is the most affluent part of Wales. House prices are rising exponentially, businesses are opening there, there's a higher standard of living, better educational attainment rate, longer life expectancy etc etc. Swansea struggles, badly. One of the lowest rates of children with both working parents in Wales, one of the lowest rates of home ownership in Wales, one of the lowest gross annual income for households in Wales, falling house prices...we're even behind Newport which is widely derided as a slum.
So, what does the party of the working class do to help this deprived area? Does it back our regeneration schemes? Back our city deal? Nationalise the steel works like it did Cardiff Airport? No. It would rather keep financing the rich, giving itself cushy limo rides around Cardiff at extortionate expenses, and leave us to languish without help...I'm sorry but does this not sound Tory to you? Does this sound like a true Labour Party?
They've increasingly become like the Tories, they look after the rich, and the rest of us can get stuffed.
I'm glad people are finally waking up to what I've been saying for years, labour aren't good for Wales, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm hoping for a sweeping change like they've had up in Scotland, they got complacent there thinking they would always dominate and they feel the same here. I'm not actually particularly bothered who takes over as long as labour is kicked hard up the arse and as far away as possible.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
Oh, then you're very much like the party you extol the virtues of, not interested in reading anything which disputes the nonsensical rhetoric you preach.
By acknolwedge their weakness, do you mean when you mentioned that the balance of funding has been 'slightly off' - in the next few years they're having over £1.5bn spent on them, we're having £20m...in what world is that slight? Only to a Labour supporter I suppose.
Of course I've read/listened to your viewpoints over the past few days, I just don't agree with all of them (I agree with some). That's all.
If you're going to expect me to agree with you that I have a "utopian" view of Labour, or that I "preach" their views as if I'm some kind of spokesperson of theirs, you're going to have a long day.
I'm a Labour supporter based on what I believe is right for Wales, and also the UK. It's really as simple as that.

Like every other careerist who was gone straight from full time education into full time political parasitism she's just mouthing the soundbites you want to hear. She talks about heavy industry, she's never worked in it. She talks glibly about Northern Ireland, she's never served there.
Just another hollow manque in an ill-fitting business suit.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Yeah to be fair, I'd rather someone vote for a party based on a knowledge of their policies - even if I fundamentally disagree with them - than someone who votes Labour because they alwayys have/antipathy for the Tories etc.
Okay so yesterday I emailed Edwina saying the following -
Dear Edwina,
I must say I am extremely disappointed not to have had a response on these crucial issues in the buildup to the Assembly Elections. These are grievances which are widely felt in Swansea regarding the way Wales has been governed since devolution, and in particular, with the way investment has been distributed.
With recent polls suggesting that Labour will fail to win an overall majority, I thought that engaging with constituents would have been of higher concern.
Kind regards.
Today, I had the following response -
"Thank you for your further correspondence of 14 March regarding Welsh Government support for a Swansea City Deal.
I do not agree that consideration of a City Deal for Swansea has been overlooked at the expense of support for the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal. As I explained in my previous response, the two City Deals are at different stages of development, with the Swansea Bay City Region having only recently set out its initial proposals. Clearly further work now needs to take place, not least in setting out financial requirements in more detail.
It is also important to recognise that City Deals, by their very nature, reflect the distinct ambitions for an area, and the approach therefore needs to be tailored accordingly."
So, again, she answered none of the questions but merely seemed to confirm that we won't be getting funding.
I responded with -
"Thank you for your response.
Whilst I appreciate that the Cardiff city deal is and was at a different stage, that still doesn't change the fact that the Welsh Government was quick to offer financial support for the Cardiff City deal, whereas the Swansea Region deal has so far, looked to be entirely funded by private enterprise.
Can you establish whether the Welsh Government has any intention of financially backing the Swansea Region Deal?
Also, many of the questions I asked were overlooked in your response, so if I ask them again, would you be able to answer them please?
"In light of the fact that the Welsh Government has only offered £20m to the regeneration of Swansea City Centre, does this, in your opinion, constitute anywhere near equality with the billions of pounds which has been spent on Cardiff Bay/St Davids/the Millenium Centre, and other fantastic wealth-creating ventures which turned Cardiff into the city it is today?"
"If you can explain why Swansea's City Centre regeneration was only offered the paltry sum of £20m, in sharp juxtaposition with the vast amount spent on regeneration Cardiff Bay, and city centre?"
With Swansea losing a seat to the Conservatives in the General Election, and frustration across the city fermenting that Swansea is consistently being vastly disproportionately funded at the expense of the capital city, I believe these are important questions which many in the city will want explained before voting."
I'll keep you updated. If you haven't written yet, please do. Put pressure on them in case they do win.
I had a canvassing phone call from Labour a few weeks back. Now I was very polite because they do still have some very 'genuine' people still left in the party! .....I told the guy I could bring myself to vote for them at Westminster elections but WAG....no way
My words "That's all you're concerned about is Cardiff!....Cardiff!......Cardiff!
The guy's on here contacting these 'career-Labour-politician' impostors are really doing Labour a favour by giving them a wake up call. But they i.e. WAG-Red-Tories also known as Welsh Labour are too thick, arrogant and complacent to realise.

If you think Labour and the Tories are the same, why do you think Carwyn Jones recalled the Sennedd today but David Cameron didn't think it was worth recalling parliament regarding the steel crisis?

To get positive PR I'd imagine, a 'look we're doing something' - when they're not actually doing anything, just talking.
As Plaid have just pointed out, he didn't go to India to the meeting to encourage them to keep it open, they haven't offered financial assistance and didn't before the announcement to mitigate some of the losses, and they haven't offered to nationalise it - despite claiming that the UK government should.
They were quick enough to nationalise Cardiff Airport, but that meets the criteria of 'good for cardiff = good for wales'. Port Talbot, sadly, is in south west therefore qualifies for no such help.
I wouldn't be too impressed with what should become nothing more than a Labour PR initiative and pre-election point scoring/mud-slinging session between rival-parties! My guess the Labour WAG will tell the Tories its all their fault and they must save Port Talbot. I can then see exploitative Plaid/Lib Dem rivals coming out with the "Why didn't you Labour buy it when you were in power" stuff? etc etc.
I would guess other than a load of hot air, platitudes, pre-electioneering, rival party arguing and buck-passing the square root of f#ck all will actually be achieved?........But if Carwyn does take the bull by the horns and solves the crisis I will praise him to the hilt. I await the headlines for his and Labour WAG's remarkable achievement on this?
