Matters money 17:00 - Jan 26 with 3155 views | sully49 | IMHO we need to put aside, for now at least, our dogmatic approach in the bottom line and all things financial. The financially more astute amongst us will probably say I'm talking nonsence, but here I go. We all know that our premier league status is vital, to say the least, and our personal holy grail, which will define us this season. I don't want to be one who look's at the all lower divisions pointing out who used to be in premier league. We will have our share of the obcene money coming our way at the end of this season. I am only taking about increasing our budgetary, and player wage figure here. Therefore, why can't we consider going into a "manageable" debt solution to help us set our sights higher in our desperate need for a striker. The addition of a proven goal scoring stricker is a MUST and will more than help us in our struggle going forward, thus allowing us our rightly deserved seat at the top table of arguably the best leage in the world. If the rumours, doing the rounds currently, are to be believed then the available money isn't great so I think uping that figure would be in the region of £15-25M.(open to debate) Not huge amount in the grand scheme of things. Speculate to accumulate in regards our additional ground capacity, thus increasing our ST's and bums on seats at every game paying its way very quickly is another issue all together. We will have continuing faith with HJ to bring in a rough diamond for peanuts, as usual, but with the clock ticking ever closer, I don't believe we have the time to wait. It is with this money that I would reimburse that managed debt. Of course the next obvious question will be, God forbid, what will happen should we go down then I suggest the parachute payment and players wage savings, as they will all leave as soon as the season is over, would amply suffice. I could be completely wrong in my ranting's but one thing I am not, and that a new stricker is desperate and the clock is clicking as loud as the one closing that window. It's only my opinion but one given honestly. [Post edited 27 Jan 2016 16:33]

Its a case of reprogramming the team to play as (witnessed in the past!) an effective collective unit with a cutting edge that so evidently went AWOL under Monk's tenure. Add to that increased confidence/removal of anxieties and pressure a few wins create and we'll all see a completely different team to the one that struggled. IMO the team was de-programmed under Monk and his loons and once the negatives they created are exorcised and all gone?.......An unstoppable rise up the table!

Matters money on 23:11 - Jan 26 with 865 views | Nookiejack | I agree with you for the reason one of the journalists on Sunday Supplement said a few weeks back - that we have on average a low goals expectation because we don't create enough goal scoring chances. Last season we had a very high conversation to chances created ratio - so over performed. This season have reverted to where we should be - given the low number of chances we create. I would still rather Gomis than most other strikers we have been linked with for example Gayle. On his day he can score some great goals, hold ball up and defend well at near post. I don't think we should be so keen on letting him go.

Matters money on 07:40 - Jan 27 with 792 views | Dr_Winston | Not like a journalist to be that perceptive. But you're right. Our chance creation is not what it should be. If we were creating a ton of opportunities every week and Gomis was missing them then I'd understand the level of stick he gets. As whoever we stick upfront has tended to get maybe one or two per game on a good week then it seems somewhat pointless. It'll take time for FG's ideas and changes to sink in, but I certainly don't see our squad in the kind of mess where making multi million pound moves for Championship strikers makes any kind of sense, nor envying the cash Newcastle seem to be pissing away either. Would be happy for a couple of loans to fill a gap or two to be honest. If JdG is one of those then so much the better.

Matters money on 08:11 - Jan 27 with 767 views | ymaohyd | First of all, if you are right, how on earth are we broke? 5 years in the Prem and no money, beggars belief. Secondly, if we were serious about extending the stadium, surely we would have been putting money aside to start building. If we weren't how on earth were the club making noises about extending, if they weren't even planning financially for that, doesn't make sense to me. Thirdly, I think it's bull to say that there aren't strikers out there to improve us. We currently have a natural 10 playing in a one up top system. Our two main strikers for the standards of the Prem are crap and look similar to each other. Guidolin has been around a long time to know what he wants and there should be plenty of decent alternatives out there. Lastly, going back to the original post, why is it vital that we stay up? For me, the only reason would be to finish the infrastructure. Otherwise, yes lots of money with the new TV deal, going to players, agents, dividends for the board etc etc. It's been a great journey and yes I'd want to stay up for as long as we can, but I don't see it as being vital.

Matters money on 09:08 - Jan 27 with 725 views | jamieswan78 | A lot read to much in to the last financial year where we only made a small profit after all costs were met. I don't think there's a massive fund built up for a rainy day but sure there's room to sign a decent player if they were available at a fair price. If a lot of posters on here had their way we would be hundreds of millions in debt, paying silly prices for average players but because the board refuse to do this then posters seem to think we don't have a pot to piss in. I would be happy to continue with Ayew up top but think we need a decent option as cover for him.
Matters money on 09:26 - Jan 27 with 719 views | shandyjack | how about we get some of our midfielders and defenders chipping in,i've been the first to blame Gomis, but i think Ayew is getting used to his role now and bar injury will get another 6/7 goals, siggy another 4/5, but apart from that what about Wayne,Ki, odd defenders goal chipping in . Can't all be the strikers responsibility. Hopefully JDG comes in and help this out

Matters money on 09:50 - Jan 27 with 710 views | Dr_Winston | The way we've played for most of the season doesn't help them either. If FG can reintroduce the levels of tempo in our play we've seen before in many of the same personnel then goals from elsewhere will come too. Imagine how much more effective someone like Montero would be if he was getting the ball 15/20 yards further up the pitch and before defences have had time to settle and get two men on him.

Matters money on 11:19 - Jan 27 with 657 views | jasper_T | We're only broke in terms of cashflow. The club is making a profit year on year (and it would have been much larger last year had they not changed the accounts year end), but cashflow-related debt is also increasing every year as more and more money gets tied up in long term deals (it will be ages before we get all the Bony money), the weekly wage bill increases, and the club seeks to do smart business with its own transfers (committing to pay for players over 3 or 4 years drives up the overall price, and places the club at risk should relegation etc. befall it). The owners don't have the personal money available to prop up the club's finances, and while it could take on additional debts to support immediate spending that is a dangerous path to tread, as many football league clubs have found (and are right now finding).
