Mane had to fly back from Africa, so was probably still tired from earning his air miles. I'm sure Stoke were pleased to see he was only on the bench.
Although Mane wasn't fantastic when he came on, I'm sure he would have had more of a difference had he been on for longer. He did after all have our one and only shot on target FFS!!

We were crying out for someone who could get a shot on target. We had 14 shots off target. Even in the pre-match warm-up, when our players were taking turns to shoot at an empty net from the penalty spot, 7 out of 8 of their shots missed the goal completely.

I think he came back with an injury. He wasn't at the races when he came on, but not many players were today.

Too many were off their game today. We were really flat and just never really got going. But for woeful finishing, Stoke could have won that three or four nil. The only player that stood out was Virgil... again.

Mané had to travel from Africa and arrived back much later than all the others. Koeman said he also came back with a slight ankle knock.

All in all - a completely bollocky day.

Shane only had to travel back from Dublin, but it looked a little like he had been on a 2-day bender to celebrate the Irish getting through.

Difficult as I'm sure RK would rather have had Shane being sub given he's coming back from injury, and with Jay Rod also out, I guess the only other option was Ramirez. I do wonder if we would be a bit daft to let Ramirez leave in January. Lack of squad depth beginning to tell.

Pretty dire all round today and the better team won. The first shot on their goal took 70 minutes ffs. I don't really understand this 'tiredness' thing, after all they travel in first class and have every whim catered to. Players just need to get on with performing every time they put the shirt on. They can be as knackered as they like when they reach the grand old age of 35 and are retired.

From the moment I walked in the ground the atmosphere was strangely flat and weird. Must admit they are good at defending we could have played for hours and not scored only a set piece would have done it. Shit boring game but lets March On.

Senegal's a minimum 8 hour direct flight to London and, what with pissing about in the airport for 3 hours before and maybe sometime afterwards plus the travel to and from the airport he could have been looking at about 16 hours x 2 in the space of a few days which would be tiring for most. I left home at 2am to go to Denmark by coach, plane coach and got there about 5pm and a similar return journey and i was knackered though i was just eating, drinking and watching football.

Most of our players have been away this week,it's the price you pay for having better players, but that's not an excuse as Stoke were better than us today and they are a good side and deserved the points today. It happens, bad day at the office, move on.

Add to that, fly to senegal last week, then fly to Madagascar for a world cup qualifier last friday (8 hrs ?), return to senegal (another 8 hrs?) play the 2nd leg and then fly back to England !!!

Yes tired poor souls indeed !!

....but before a wise crack answer, perhaps take a look at the map and see how far Senegal is from here, then see how far Madagascar is from Senegal, then track the return journeys - do all that in a week, along with playing 2 important World Cup Qualifiers (with a slight knock) and then imagine how all that will take it out of you (as hedgeend rightly points out). My point about the air miles was fact, not a joke - due to the amount of miles covered,

The international break certainly came at the wrong time for us and we had far too many players well off the pace and not up for it today.

Oh! dear did he have to travel so far, poor him.Don't worry he will be on a plane up north soon. When you're that age and at that level of fitness you should be able to walk through walls.
Modern footballers these days particularly these mercenaries, often have the talent but not the stomach for the British game. They go down when they are touched(particularly in the penalty area) Iike a sack of potatoes, a trait that has become endemic in our game now.Often throw tantrums when they don't get their way i.e. transfers to other clubs etc.
Not knowing the extent of Manes injury its impossible to gage myself so it is the managers decision I give you that.
Forgive me as I find these international breaks just brake up momentum.

Agreed Grumpy. I'd be surprised if a player like Mane doesn't have assistants/hangers-on sorting out his travel plans and all he's got to do is sit in the first class lounge and then pop into his bed on the plane. It's hardly like 'normal' people travelling on their package holidays. Take a professional tennis player, not only do they have to travel every week pretty much all year round, they play for longer and have multiple games per week. I've never heard the likes of Federer saying he's tired because of travel. As for Long, it was his big chance to start and he was very poor, so hopefully that won't happen again for a while.

We should have started with Mane, and seen how he went, if and when he tired taken him off. He rarely does 90 mins when not tired anyway.
We should have had at least one penalty but notwithstanding, we weren't good enough going forward.
